Pitches was a surprise to say the least. A very warm welcome greater us and we were shown to our table immediately. Drinks were ordered and then the food. A very cosy, rustic but definitely modern atmosphere, friendly and caring staff and the food was excellent. Try the Carrot & Ginger soup, a must! Portions were generous to say the least. You didn't leave Ophir hungry. I had the steak, cooked to perfection followed by a 'special desert' of Apple Crumble & "Creme Anglais" (Custard) as it was my birthday and John from Hawkdun rise had organised they with folks at Ophir (and of course my wife!). A wonderful evening, with wonderful food, within 20 mins driving of Hawkdun and possibly 30 minutes of Alexandra. Thank you all at Ophir.

Pitches Store was a major surprise. Really lovely place to stay, great service, food and a lovely host who was knowledgeable about the area, and the food an wine being served. This is a definite must do again type of place!

We were warmly welcomed from the moment we opened the door... and our experience only got better after that.

The décor is beautiful with a rustic, yet modern vibe, a cake cabinet to die for and the aroma of freshly ground coffee.

My wife and I dropped by for lunch and were delighted with the soup and Blue-vein & vegetable Quiche with salad. The servings were generous and our meals were served in a very timely manner. The bread sticks (2) were warm like they had just been baked and the pea & ham soup was full of flavour and the ham left a lingering smokey taste on the palette. Top marks!

We were fortunate to meet the owners who were just lovely - down to earth and easy to talk to.

When were return to this part of the world, we will definitely be back.

An owner's dream which has been turned into reality. A restaurant as good as this is hard to find.

A must visit if you are visiting Central Otago. This is a warm, friendly café / restaurant in a very small town in Central Otago which is a great example of an old mining town. The service food and atmosphere were all perfect for dinner out on my partners birthday. We felt relaxed and it was only about 25 minutes drive from Cromwell. We have popped in here before for lunch or even just for a coffee. The owners who are up front of house are such good country hosts but they have a bit of something else from their Auckland experience. The food is way better than café or pub food; thus the price.
