This guesthouse is located near the famous Lake Myvatn, where any accomodation is incredibly expensive. I think this is a good compromise, the price was really good and we had a simply furnished but nice and clean room with our own bathroom.

We stayed here for one night during our trip round the 'ring road'. The guesthouse is set in a lovely peaceful valley. We had a room on the first floor of the main building. The room was nice and clean, spacious with a large bathroom, and was nicely decorated. Reception and the restaurant/breakfast room are in a different building, along with some other rooms. I think the reception and breakfast areas are new and are very smart. Breakfast was pretty standard, and coffee was good. One of the highlights here is the hot tub. It was lovely to sit out in it in the evening sun and admire the views across the valley.
The only slight negative is that there was only one pillow each, and the room was quite light during the night. Despite that, this is my favourite of all six places we stayed in on our trip round Iceland.

After spending 2 nights at a very average guesthouse, we were a little worried when we saw the main building was a container. However, this was just the reception area and dining room and they were fine. We stayed in one of the 2 storey guesthouses which was lovely. We had to climb stairs but the pretty view made it worthwhile. We had a charming room with a sloping roof and plenty of space with good storage facilities and a desk. The only criticism was that the bath was also under this sloping roof so you had to sit in the bath and wash yourself with the hand-held shower as standing up was impossible. For 2 nights we put up with that but it needs to be upgraded. We found the host to be friendly and helpful and we were very impressed with the 3 course dinners and breakfasts. A well located and comfortable hotel in our experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the small houses.

Although this place is clean, breakfasts are good, and hot tubs are available, there are other aspects that travelers might want to know about this place.

The “Guesthouse” includes three buildings in which visitors are housed: an older house, with 4 units; a newer 2-story motel-like structure, with 10 units; and a mobile home which houses reception, breakfast, and at least two lodging units. Accommodations in the house are much better (larger rooms, better bath facilities, better furnishings) than in the basic motel-like units, yet the prices are the same (we paid $228 per night with bath). The official website only shows the house. The accompanying photos show the three buildings and rooms in two of them. The driveway to the house is down the road from the driveway to the reception and motel buildings.

We traveled with another couple, and had reserved 2 rooms with bath at “Guesthouse” Storu-Laugar more than 5 months in advance. When we arrived at the reception area, the hostess told us our two rooms were in separate buildings: one in the house and one in the motel unit, which was inconvenient since we were travelling in one vehicle. When we stated that we would like to be in the same building, she offered rooms (which we did not inspect) in the reception/dining mobile unit. We refused that, but asked if we could be in the same building the second night of our stay. “I’m sorry” was the response. We experienced no desire to accommodate us, only to take it or leave it…and to leave payment for two rooms for one night room if we were to leave. So we were obliged to drive and unload one couple in one location, then go out to the main road and enter the other driveway to unload the other couple.

The hostess told us that the “Guesthouse” served a 3-course dinner at an appointed hour for, as I recall, 5900 kr., about $50 per person. Reluctant to contribute further to the management under the circumstances, we went to a restaurant attached to a gas station on the main road about a kilometer or two away and had quite a good meal for less than half that price.

This was our only negative experience in any lodging facility during 14 days in Iceland. If you can tolerate an imperial hostess, the facilities themselves are adequate, and I would think preferable to camping, which is also available just down the road from the “Guesthouse.” A public swimming pool is also nearby.

Highly expensive, the guest house is misrepresenting itself online. We were put in an annex next to reception next to the main building which had just been completed. The room was spartan.
Smelt was awful in the room (paint, varnish) - no facilities like desk, wardrobe or mirror, which were in the description.
Breakfast was almost non-existent, no fruit or yoghurt, poorly presented and food not replaced. Lack of hygiene as person touching food with bare hands when putting things out.
This was a very disappointing visit .... Would advise NOT to stay here at all, though in a very nice area.
Hotels like this should be controlled and warned not to misrepresent what they offer.
Feel cheated!

The customer service at this guesthouse is phenomenal and was very helpful to us. Even over the phone the owner made sure we were given all that we needed. The guesthouse is located in a good location (near Myvatn).Highly recommended.
