Stayed at the park house hotel over the bank holiday weekend with my girlfriend! We both loved it

Good bits

The staff are incredible! They are more than happy to help and really friendly! (Tom was great, Stewart was lovely...there were plenty more, but we never got their names) It really felt like all the staff cared about the hotel and it's reputation!

The hotel offers free bike hire! Free movie rentals! Free lawn games! Awesome when you have nothing planned for the day!

The spa was amazing! Staff are really helpful, the treatments were nice (and good value for money when comparing it to other spas in close vicinity of London) and it was quiet (which was a surprise considering it was a bank holiday weekend)

The rooms were really well looked after (cleaned several times a day) Really comfy bed and a great shower

Bad bits

We felt like dinner fell short of our expectations.

Conclusion

Probably the best service I have ever come across! Feeling very relaxed! Thank you!!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the review, definitely one for the notice board!
Sorry to hear dinner was not up to scratch, most unusual.

Warm wishes

We enjoyed a glorious 3-night stay at this fantastic hotel, drawn here as we were by a family combined 80th Birthday and Golden Wedding celebration luncheon, held on site in the Barn function room.

As one would expect from such a fine establishment, upon arrival the staff were most welcoming - particularly as our journey from East Anglia was delayed because of the notorious M25, and we arrived at 18:00. As our party included 2 children under the age of 10, the staff made arrangements for us to eat in the main dining room, despite the policy of children requiring to conclude their meals by 18:00.

Overall, there is nothing to fault, and we had a wonderful stay. Even the night porter greeted me with a welcoming smile as I headed out of the door at 06:00 for my pre-breakfast bike rides through Cowdray country. There are several lovely rides I found centred on Midhurst - just check out Map My Ride and you will find lots of suggestions.

Just two comments to make - and these are the only reasons that the ratings are 'very good' rather than 'excellent' in the appropriate categories:

1. Previous comments are echoed regarding the restrictions for children in terms of the early conclusion of evening meals, and the hours allowed in the swimming pool - and use of the changing rooms in the spa. Whilst the staff were quick to realise that our children are (generally!) well behaved, and indeed praised them on several occasions, 18:00 is a little early by which time to have completed their meals. We do understand that the hotel wishes to attract the discerning adult diner, but our children regularly dine both at home and at other establishments until 19:00 without disturbing others, and allowing the extra hour helps compromise those in the family party who would otherwise dine later. As far as the pool is concerned, I think if you are a full paying guest of the hotel, then you should enjoy much greater use of the pool for your children. Whilst this clearly isn't centreparcs, on three occasions over the weekend, we were asked to vacate the pool at 10:30am (acknowledge that the times were published) when there were few if any other users of the spa. On one morning, we were delayed in leaving the spa because we were not allowed to use the main changing rooms as we had children with us, and we had to use the disabled/family changing room, and because our clothes were stored in the lockers inside, we had to wait until another family had changed before we could gain access to our belongings. The main changing rooms were completely empty at the time - it doesn't make sense for families not to use these areas. It would also help if the staff were more discreet about updating their social network status on their smartphones during their working hours in full view of guests, in-between asking us to leave the pool.

2. We enjoyed the superb views of the south downs and the grounds of the hotel from two window aspects, in room 12 on the top floor (one of the family rooms). However, we were sometimes kept awake by the noise of the water tanks refilling in the roof space above our room, every time there was water demand from elsewhere in the hotel. e.g the running of a basin, or the flushing of a loo. The tank could be fitted with a silencing mechanism which would cure the problem.

Overall, a delightful hotel and a really enjoyable weekend, and we would like to return one day.

Room Tip: If staying with a family - choose room 12 for superb views and plenty of room. Don't let the noisy water tanks put you off - I am sure the plumber will be called as soon as the hotel read this review!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the review, we are really pleased you enjoyed your stay.
Echoing our previous comments, we are only to happy for Children to use the spa facility and restaurant, however we do set aside adult only times to accommodate guests who are travelling without children. We are sorry you found this disagreeable.

With warm wishes

Our title reflects the intenseness of some of the previous reviews. In our case the superlatives simply run out! We have just celebrated a get-together with our family and heartily endorse all the good things adumbrated by previous reviewers.
We and our family had a horrendous delay in arrival due to the Nation's famous car park - the M25. It was horrible. We had arranged for our children's Dinner at 6pm. Stuck in a traffic stand-still we advised Reception that we would be arriving late. But the management told us that they were happy for us to eat later. The friendliness of the welcome at Reception and of the staff generally cannot be praised too highly. In our experience the Management training programme of this Hotel is simply superb. Our rooms were furnished to the highest quality available; the bathrooms left nothing to be desired. The comfort, ambience and general tranquility is a character dearly earned by the family and staff responsible for this most wonderful hotel, spa and restaurant. The chef and his assistants are outstanding in their competence. We could find no fault whatever. Well done. Thank you. We cannot recommend you highly enough.

Room Tip: All rooms are good; simply ask for a Downs view if that is what you wish.

Quiet, serene, relaxing. Beautiful country views from our room. Gorgeous dinner. Lovely breakfast. Big indoor pool - big enough to have a serious swim. Outdoor pool must be lovely in summer. Spa is wonderful - had a great treatment there. Free movies a nice touch. Why it's not excellent: mattress in our deluxe and expensive room was not up to scratch - a bit thin. Nothing with drawers for clothes. Windows have lazy paint marks on them (just a little work could remedy this), skirting/base boards are chipped as was the little table. Very little surface space once the tea tray was out on the table. Very small grounds when you consider it looks like a country house hotel. The vista goes on forever (lovely) but the walk around the grounds takes only fifteen minutes because the property is surrounded by "private land" signs. The putting green is fun for families. The South Downs are on the doorstep though if you want proper walking. Sweet but inexperienced waiting staff (there when not needed, search party for them otherwise). Welcoming and efficient reception staff.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review, We are very pleased you were able to relax during your stay.
We are a little unsure of which room you may have stayed in, but surprised the mattress was uncomfortable, as they are all high quality from the same manufacture. But we will get on it and road test them all just to double check!

Warm wishes

After looking for hotels in the area found this one and what a Gem !
Room was tastefully decorated with modern equipment and very comfortable.
The whole ambience exuded quality, cleanliness and good taste.
The hotel is situated in the most beautiful surroundings and kept immaculately..
The staff were amazing and were very attentive to our every need.
The only slight disappointment was the evening meal menu. I have no doubt the quality would have been excellent, but the options were very contemporary and did not cater for more traditional fare. The breakfasts though were amazing and of excellent quality (and more traditional)
Following our 3 night stay - cant wait to go back for another visit soon I hope.
Believe the reviews - they speak the truth !!!
