“Excellent - a little quirky”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

I stayed for the the weekend with my wife - beautiful summer weather showed the hotel at its best. They have the best 6 hole golf course I've ever experienced - water bunkers the lot! Immaculate crocquet lawn, bowls!! and two grass tennis courts. Lovely pool indoor and outdoor - our room in the main house was very well furnished and spacious - very comfortable bed. decor just the right side of chintzy. The food in the restaurant is a little disappointing and this was probably why they don't seem get a lot of people there except for residents. It sounds good on the menu but somehow doesnt quite hit the bullseye.
The fact that it is family owned and run may explain quirkiness - they do a great job and they have a high degree of confidence in how they do things - if you don't agree they remain confident! This reflected in some of their responses to other reviews. However, we did like it so not a problem. Bit like staying with a rich and sophisticted aunt - her house, her rules!
Defintely a 5 blob excellent - I highly recommend.

Overall hotel is stunning!! We however are a little disappointed that we reported a problem last December. (Six months ago!!) Two films you had streamed to watch on your film listings seemed to freeze 1/3 and 3/4 the way through the film!! Trivial you may think, but we reported this in December 2013 and have returned to the hotel in June 2014 to relax after a lovely meal and finish these films.. To discover that at EXACTLY the same point in these films have frozen AGAIN !!!! Although not life threating you may say... Incredible irritating and more to the point our comment/complaint in dec 13 has been ignored!!!! Such a shame and very frustrating as we are in a different room to Dec 13. Small thing maybe but important to is your customers.. So sorry to moan as this is our favorite hotel and we do love staying here but please please can you sort this out?!!! A small hotel tucked away down country lanes this family owned country house is a great place for a relaxing short break. Apple TV and free wi fi is a great bonus. Food is very good and there is a great little pool and spa. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful though occasionally the service could sometimes be a bit sharper when the restaurant is full. We stayed in the annex which was a stones throw from the main building in a small but clean and pleasant standard room. The original art work around the hotel adds to the ambiance.

We initially had a great stay at the Park House Hotel - the grounds are stunning, impeccably kept & it is quiet, relaxed & as they say on the tin, quintessentially British! I can't fault the venue at all.

The staff were fantastic (special mention to the bar man who settled our bowls scoring dispute), helpful & not overly stuffy which was a concern I had going to somewhere such as this. We ate at the restaurant which was enjoyable - some nice touches & again relaxed yet attentive service, the food was very good without being excellent. Still worth what they charge & a well priced wine list.

I was just saying to my girlfriend that I would be recommending this on tripadvisor & to friends when as I checked out I asked out of courtesy whether it was OK to use the facilities for a few hours before we planned to leave (assuming this would be fine on a Sunday as it has been anywhere else I have stayed for a weekend break). It was a sunny morning and the place (as it had been all weekend) was quiet. I was told that it was OK "for an hour or so", which bearing in mind I was already checking out half an hour earlier than the deadline meant I was able to stay around for half an hour after check-out, how generous! We arrived (probably earlier than most travelling down from London & staying for the weekend) from work at about 18:30 Friday, had a quick game of tennis & a look at the grounds once we'd settled - and that was it on the Friday before it began to get cold... So after spending £215/night for the room (we spent £750 at the hotel/spa in total for Fri eve & Sat so were good customers) I really didn't expect to be made to feel we had to leave immediately on the Sunday. If we had turned up early on the Friday then it would have been fine; I felt that once we'd paid then we were just expected to get on our way.

It's a real shame as after the staff had gone out of their way to make us feel at home, we left feeling like we'd been a bit used - and we're far from overly sensitive! On this basis, I can't recommend the hotel and would ask those coming down from London who want a weekend break to reconsider as this will be in reality a rather pricey Saturday day trip.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review.

I am pleased to read that your overall experience was positive.

We are a small hotel and spa, but we do where possible try to offer a degree of flexibility.
All guest's are most welcome to arrive at the hotel early on the day of check in and use all the facilities, the spa, tennis, golf, putting, plus many more. We offer this so that any guest who may be staying on a short break can make the most of their experience. To off set this we do ask that guests checking out do vacate the hotel facilities by late lunch time. Otherwise potentially will could have double the guests and no where to put them, which would mar everybody's experience.
Sorry the stay didn't quite work out for you, in despite of your feelings towards check out, I do hope that someday you will return.

Warm wishes

We recently stayed for 1 night on a dinner, B & B basis.

The hotel has ample grounds which include a golf course. The area is extremely quiet. The public rooms are furnished in impeccable taste. Our bedroom (no. 11), on the second floor, overlooked the garden and was spacious and tastefully decorated. The en suite bathroom was adequate although the sloping ceiling somewhat restricted the space.

We ate dinner in the red-walled dining-room and we quite enjoyed our meal. Breakfast was excellent, and served in the conservatory - a very bright and pleasant room. We found the staff to be most professional and friendly.

We would warmly recommend this hotel.

This is a fabulous and very relaxing place right in the middle of the beautiful South Downs National Park.Gorgeous bedrooms with all amenities and free Wi-Fi. Dinner and breakfast were of high quality. The hotel is near the lovely medieval town of Midhurst. Enjoy the views of the rural beauty and the grounds from the balcony of your room.

We've stayed at The Park Hotel 3 times in total and we always recommend it to the special friends and family we have - so consider yourselves lucky to read this! It is our annual anniversary treat & we will be going again during the summer. The most powerful and true thing I can say about this wonderful place is that 24 or 48 hours here feels like a week abroad. It is so relaxing and the service is superlative. Every single aspect of the hotel is top class. The grass tennis courts/bowling green/golf course, the spa & the individually decorated rooms make it very special. Enjoying the evening dinner is a must do too.

Room Tip: If you stay Sun- Weds, the hotel offers some very attractive deals
