Iv made the trip through springs junction many times, the alpine cafe is in the perfect place half way between destinations which is why I usually stop here. Ever since I can remember the service and food has always been poor and overpriced. However this cafe seems to be continuing on the downward slope. I had to ask if they were closing down last time i Visited as the drinks, chips, lollies and ice cream area was so bare. The food in the cabinet looked dry and unappetising and was way over priced. The toilets were disgusting! Every time I go there the bin is overflowing with paper towels and there doesn't seem to be any left, toilets are dirty. Service is very very slow. I always think if this cafe was in a city with compition it wouldn't last a week. Please please please pick up the game!

Worst coffee I have had in years, took one sip then left it as did my travelling companions.Pie wasnt bad but that was all. The shelves were pretty empty and not appetizing, acres of refrigerated. drink cabinets empty. What a waste of a good commercial opportunity.

This place is a traditional cafe/ tea rooms which has clearly not changed much in years. On the face of it that is fine, except that what is offered here is cheap poor quality food at extortionate prices. All of the sandwiches were on white bread, most of the hot food looked dried up as though it had been there all day, the custard squares looked a few days old, and the service consisted of unintelligible noises from a staff member who clearly could not be bothered. A visit to the toilets revealed one toilet with a toilet brush stuck down it and another that was in desperate need of cleaning. Not recommended. Stop at reefton or murchison instead, depending on your route.

The attraction of this place is that it is the only eating house in a desolate area. I had forgotten last time we had been here thinking that our experince was quaint. But of course, it wasnt! We arrived about 11.00am on a weekday after the Easter break. There was a long queue. It was in fact a comedy of errors. There were two people out front attempting to serve food, make coffee and tea, wipe tables, serve icecream - one was extremely slow and the other didnt understand or speak english - there seemed to be one other hovering out the back. The food is non-descript. We ordered two coffees to drink on the premises and after 15 minutes realised that everyone after us had their food and drink. They had forgotten our order of course so we asked one of the serving people who didnt understand english but got the gist of the complaint and when we got the coffee it was in takeaway cups and horrible. All the tables had dirty crockery on them and people were resorting to wiping their own tables.

The loos were also grubby

Had we not found the whole experience hilarious, we might have resorted to violence.

Suggest you move on a wee bit further north as there was a good looking place about 5 minutes up.

Come on guys here is a great opportunity to have a wonderful eating place that people want to visit. Not this dump.
