“Beautiful Park, but ... the Mosquitos!!!”
Reviewed 11 July 2013

This is really the only activity of note in Villahermosa for the casual visitor; the town itself is not all that captivating. What's nice about this park is that it's two things in one: a zoo and a look at some of the ancient Olmec artifacts from Tabasco. I've heard rumor that some of these artifacts are replicas, but I cannot attest to the truth of that or not - all I can say is what I saw was quite stunning, if not a little too staged. It only takes a couple of hours, at most, to see all that La Venta has to offer, so I can think of no reason not to visit, but, oh! Those Mosquitos! They will eat you alive :)

“Great for archeology lovers and pleasant for the entire family”
Reviewed 24 June 2013

This park shows the original stone figures of La Venta, one of the prime sites in the americqs and the oldest of taht importance.
In is unusual n as far as the figures were not left "in situ" that is in there original place or taken to a museum. it si pleqsqnt for the entire family; as it is a short walk through a tropical Forest, with some local animals to be seen,

“best thing in villahermosa, but still...”
Reviewed 12 May 2013

other are right - villahermosa is more of a staging ground than anything else. the park is fine. the curators basically created a zoo, and then decided to add a few olmec heads and other statuettes from neighboring archaeological sites they raided due (probably) to lack of tourism. which is fine in a museum sense, but they created these neatly manicured lanes to see the artifacts outside -- but there was no thought into the order, so everything appears placed haphazardly. and has little emotional response outside the context of where it was created.

“Jewel of Villahermosa”
Reviewed 2 April 2013

The Parque Museo La Venta is the jewel of the City, a majestic park, with an archeological zone, Olmeca and Maya civilizations lived there thousands of years ago, and left many remains in the area. There is also a zoo, but the animals are in poor condition, as the park is state owned, and it is obvious that the entry fees do not cover operating costs, plus the money that is collected probably ends up in some park officials personal bank account.
Definitely visit if you are in Villahermosa.
