The Maya Palenque is a huge disappointment. The location is great. In Palenque's La Canada area and near the bus terminal - in fact right across the street from the new terminal. The pool area is really nice. But it's downhill from there. Checking in was a hassle. It took them 20 minutes to find the reservation - even with my printed copy - and in spite of the fact that the hotel appeared to be 20% occupied. The first morning for breakfast (included in the price) was a hassle. Had to get the desk to void the bill even though we had established we had breakfast included and had ordered off the special "Inclusivo" menu.
The rooms were an equal disappointment. Towels ragged, hairdryer did not work. And not a huge issue but none-the-less symbolic. The chain on the door was screwed in too far from the door to actually be used. Air Con had two setting - frigid and off.
Staff was polite but no English. Don't get me wrong. I do not expect the whole world to speak English - but in a hotel affiliated with a US chain, and in a tourist town full of foreigners one would expect a little more.More
