Palenque is an extremely small town that is just starting to grow...
Mision Palenque is a 5 star hotel, and you get the amenities that come with this... a nice pool, great staff, tennis court, etc...
But it all comes down to what kind of plan do you have... if you are only going to sleep, maybe just stay at another hotel... they are REALLY CHEAP downtown...
this is a high-scale hotel, and i loved it!!! but maybe next time i'll save a couple of bucks...

Room Tip: I had the room 604 and I liked it

Very nice "jungle" setting, lovely pool and restaurant area. The room was spacious and clean, remember to tilt the blinds as people walk past the window to get to their rooms. The staff are helpful but very little English is spoken making communication difficult. The restaurant has very limited vegetarian options. Take the opportunity to try the TEmascal as we didn't get a chance and then found it hard to find somewhere else to try it.

One drawback is when you check in you do not get a safe key. You have to go and ask for it and they then give you a big lock for the safe and key. Also you have to ask for the remote control.

Room Tip: Learn some Spanish before you get there

You'd better speak English in this hotel as even reception has no notion of English. The hotel is made for big groups, when the whole dinning room is full, from the swimming pool to the reception, you have no air to breath if you do not sit close to the pool and the Mexican life band makes your head explode. My last dinner took me only 10 min. This is all I could stand in this difficult condition. Anyway, not a big loss as food is bad in this hotel. During my 2 night stay wifi did not work at all. When the second day I asked reception, in my best Spanish, to get an access to any hotel computer, I heard they did not have a computer....
The room was correct. I hoped for a safe box and there was one in the room with a big hole on the side and no code buttons.

We stayed with a group, arriving rather late. The hotel was alive with other and larger groups. The rooms open off an outside walkway, so if you can look out, everyone else can look in. The rooms were fair sized and OK but all rather tired.
The worst thing was the food. There was a buffet dinner. Wilted salad and a few bowls of slop. The soup still had the bits of paste from the concentrate it had been made from. Breakfast was little better. One of our group broke down and wanted to go home.

I stayed at Misión Palenque about 20 years ago. It has gotten better with age-spotless rooms, good food and service and great ambience. We liked everything about the hotel. The grounds are beautiful. Loved it!
