“Peace and quiet”

The property is about 7km out of town so, unless you have a car it can feel remote. However, this is what we wanted. Karen, the host, will call a taxi for you. The property is ideally placed to visit the ruins and Karen gave us a lift there. We ate at the property and the food is good and reasonably priced. The swimming pool was welcomed at the end of hot days.

Wow... After reflecting on a month of backpacking throughout Mexico..I cannot fault a single thing about our stay at el Colombre. Not too mention It was hands down the best nights sleep we had. Disgusted to read about the rude comment below, it is the simplicity that makes it such a paradise.... And taxis do take you up the dirt road, no problem. You are there to be in the rainforest after all! We booked for only one night to break up a journey from tulum to san cristobal. We arrived far to early (8am) but we thought at least to drop out bags and go exploring. Karen immediately offered us hot breakfast and fresh coffee, then drove us to the ruins. Upon return we just enjoyed the peace and quiet so much. The breakfast is so delicious, and although they do a homemade meal in the evenings we wanted to check out el Panchan which was very groovy. So great flu to host & hostess Karen & Oscar! I hope everyone who comes through really gets to appreciate what you do. We sure did! Cheers from the kiwis.

Everything about this place makes you feel like you are in an enchanted garden away from any stress. It was everything we hoped. Clean rooms, beautiful settings, amazing wildlife, wonderful service and food. I must repeat the food was fantastic- we had personal bespoke home cooking for breakfast and dinner. The apartments are simple but very comfortable and clean. When you go to Palemque there is a certain about of spiritual nature you consume without realizing and the accommodation supported this incredible experience of Mayan culture and jungle environment. There isn't any internet (yet) but we liked the fact that we could totally relax, being busy city people, and it allowed us to concentrate on relaxing. Falling asleep with jungle thunderstorms in the distance and waking up to sunshine and humming birds was like a scene from the movie Adam and Eve, not yet in production, but make your own with your camera and memories. We would recommend this highly and at times it felt like we're in 5* accommodation with a much more personal relaxed/non-stuffy twist. Karen and Oscar are fantastic hosts/owners - passionate about their place and want you to have the best time possible. Bonita is an amazing cook and so helpful with such grace! Book here and relax like you didn't think you could.

Room Tip: All the rooms/cabins seem to be the same/offer the same experience.

Four beautifully furnished Mayan houses are spread in a lush garden with a big pool. They all have a hammock and a small terrace. If you ask in advance, you can have diner/lunch or breakfast there (yummy food made with local fresh ingredients) and the hosts will drive you to the bus station or where you need to go (Palenque ruins for example). Karen, the hostess, offered to drop us at the wonderful animal rescue center nearby and it was a great suggestion, one of the highlights of our trip.
Karen bakes delicious fresh bread and even made some for us to take on our overnight bus trip, it was great!! I only wished we could have stayed longer, it's a small paradise lost in the jungle. At night, you hear all kinds of animals.

We arrived late in the evening, but this was not a problem for the hostess to make us a delicious three-course diner. We had dessert together with another couple and the hostess and host, in a relaxed atmosphere. We had breakfast twice, which was the best of our entire stay in Mexico (which was 17 days). Especially the home-made bread was very tasty. The hospitality and service was very good, it's the first place we would visit again when returning to Mexico!
Don't expect a lot of luxury when visiting El Colombre. The cottages were nice but simple. For us, this was a positive thing because it was the best way to experience the beautiful nature in this area!

Well out of Palenque town, down a unpaved rural road (this part is completely walkable). Beautiful lush gardens. Palapas were clean as could be, considering the location and design. We arrived late in the afternoon but still wanted to make the ruins, so one of the owners kindly drove us out there! Dinner is worth having in- traditional home cooking prepared by the owner was amazing. Drinking beers on the verandah was also lovely. Couldn't have been happier or more peaceful here.

we stayed at this wonderful place for two nights. It is in the middle of nature and you just feel so close to it being there. no main road passing by - so no truck or car noises, no restaurants close - so no loud music. The owners were very friendly and helpful to us having a lot of good advice what to do in the area. The areal is beautiful including the garden and pool. Breakfast and Dinner were excellent, everything is fresh made organic food. The cabins are basic but all you need is there. A walk to the main road takes about 15 minutes, from there you can catch a bus or cab to the ruins, to the center and all sights around - also walkable within an hour.
This place is nothing for people who expect luxury but for people who love nature and peaceful silence.
