“Good choice at the center of the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013 via mobile

We got to the hotel by coincidence without any reservation. Adrian was really nice and gave us a warm welcome. Room was spacious and the property has the main services including Internet connection and a restaurant. A bit overpriced but considering the high season it was nothing unusual.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2013

I arrived in Palenque without hotel reservations. I wasn't worried about finding accommodations because my timing was after Semana Santa and before the rainy season -- a time when there are few tourists and plenty of rooms are available. So I went up the hill toward the archaeological zone and happened upon this hotel after knocking at the door of another that was waaay above my budget. I was very pleased after entering -- the public areas are beautiful -- and seeing a room and hearing the price!

Casa Lakyum opened in December, 2012, at the site of an old hotel. The property was completely renovated so everything is pretty, clean and new. The rooms are very large and simply furnished with comfortable, wood furniture. Near the entry, the rooms in my class featured a large bath vanity/closet area leading to the shower & toilet room. The bedroom contained two double beds and plenty of space -- with a large window facing the rear of the property. The window was screened and the location private enough that it could be left open at night at guest preference. The room had both user-controlled AC and ceiling fan. No telephone, TV or fridge. Bottled water was supplied. If you arrive by car, there is a large parking area.

The back of the property has a lovely pool and patio plus a cultivated and wild garden area with the mountains as background. My room had a very large, covered terrace off the bedroom with chairs for enjoying the view. As with all of the hotels on this side of the road (on the right as you travel toward the ruins from town -- I don't know what direction that is!), there is a major road behind and below and, if you are outside, you can hear some heavy trucks going by during the morning but otherwise the ambiance is serene.

Since there were no other guests, services were limited during my stay. The kitchen was not open so I went further uphill toward the ruins and took meals at Don Mucho's -- muy bien. Management apologized for this inconvenience.

After a restful night, I woke to a flock of squawking parrots landing and feeding and howler monkeys playing in the trees next to my terrace. There were beautiful flowers everywhere -- coming up from the earth and hanging from vines in the trees. This is what a stay in Chiapas' forest is all about!

Since my experience at Casa Lakyum was not complete, I did not rate the hotel as excellent. I think it will achieve that rating as travelers come to know it and enjoy its facilities. It is a very nice place and the location -- halfway up the hill between Palenque Centro and the ruins is terrific.
