“Thatched English pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

My wife and I stayed here again this winter and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff (especially Josh) were very attentive, the food was excellent and the atmosphere just as an old English pub should be. Despite the very creaky floor, our room was clean and comfortable - we will be back.

Room Tip: The room named Dart is the one with the creaky floorboards - we had it last time too!

Lovely large, clean rooms and the food in the restaurant was superb, especially the venison! We stayed as a large group booking out 4 rooms. Very friendly helpful staff and hearty breakfasts served promptly. A wonderful getaway!

Lovely pub, friendly staff, really good room which was well presented and clean (teign 1) Can't really comment about the food as we ate out apart from breakfast, which was fine, although I thought the lady on duty was about to have a breakdown because she burnt some toast ! hardly a major crime.
Anyway, my wife and I had a lovely time just sat at the bar with a few pints of stella.
Probably best to find by using road signs not satnav.

Room Tip: just remember you are staying in a pub not a 5 star hotel

Not the one to write reviews after coming back fro a holiday but this one deserves a special mention. Despite the micro climatic zones playing trickery with your expectations (and preparations!!) the warmth of the people and the place adequately made up for it. Lovely rooms. Excellent food. Most of all - The staff who were really helpful, kind and patient (we were a highly disorganised group of 10 with 3 young kids and a dog so I can't imagine it was easy for them!!). I do wish we could have spent longer at the Inn itself (and the pub!) than we did, but whatever time we did spend was absolutely great. Last but not least a big thank you to the owners who not only made our stay comfortable, but also helped us plan our outings around the area, which was very kind of them. I'd absolutely love to go back sometime and would surely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from busy city lives to enjoy some peace and tranquil in the country.

PS - The only complaint would be to the ghosts who didn't bother showing up!!! : )

Oh, dear, Cridford. You used to be our favourite place for bar food but no more. Visited on a Monday evening and had the most tasteless meals. Offered slices of warmed up shop- bought bread, then discovered that burger and bun were also shop bought: burger as thin as cardboard; chips obviously oven chips and salad little more than a bit iof lettuce. Just two staff trying to run the bar and do all the waiting. Such a shame.

Thank you for your feedback. I can certainly say that they were not oven chips , they would take far too long to cook. We can only base our staffing on what we have booked during the afternoon on that day, and on Monday we had very few people booked in. As you would know from travelling here, it is not the easiest of places to get staff in at short notice. And on the flip side of this ,it is a fair distance for our staff to travel if we don't need them, so it is a very rare occasion when we get it wrong .I take on board your other comments and will resolve this immediately.

Happened upon the pub by chance,we had been looking for a traditional thatched pub in Dartmoor.Noticed their "A" board by the side of the road and followed the country lane for a couple of miles until we came upon it.The welcome was warm and inviting. The beer first class. The meal ( Steak and jail ale pie) was extraordinarily good.
One of the best pub meals I have had for ages and I can highly recommend this pub for food and real ale.Given the location I thought the choice of food on the menu was astonishing.
It also helped that it was a glorious day and we sat outside, but a memorable day.
Well done to everyone at this great pub,i just wished I lived closer !!!
The bar staff were really pleasant ,a joy to be there.

We just happened upon the Cridford Inn one Friday afternoon. And I’m so glad we did! The pub is exactly how you’d expect it to be in a thatched building. I imagine on a winter’s night the bar is a really happy place to be with a roaring fire.

The beer here is excellent. The food is difficult for me to comment on as we only shared a scampi and chips, but the chips were triple fried and had a fantastic crunch to them. The scampi was the best I’ve ever had and the homemade dipping mayonnaise with mustard and gherkin(?) was brilliant and a steal at £6.50.

It’s a little off the beaten track, but it is very much worth a visit. We sat outside on a Sunday afternoon and it was so peaceful.

We will definitely be returning for a lunch.
