“Really nice short break”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

We stayed last year for 3 nights, the weather was lovely so that helped. Caravan was clean & a good size, the club area was nice, we ate there one night, really night, went the chip shop another night, that was a bit of a nightmare, queue was out the door & it was roasting hot in there! Childrens indoor play area was limited but my children enjoyed it, thing I like most about talacre is the location, beach, shops, pubs, arcades all within walking distance, I would go again

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. The chip shop can get very busy at times but most of our guests think it's worth the wait. We are very lucky to be situated in a beautiful location by the beach and not too far away from local towns and attractions. It is great to hear you will return to us and we look forward to welcoming you back.

We decided to have a break away in a static caravan and thought we'd give Talacre Beach a try. We booked four nights in a Laurel 2 caravan which is the standard basic caravan.

The caravan was nicer than expected, it had a TV/DVD combi which could pick up both Welsh and North West BBC & ITV regions, plus all the usual Freeview channels. There was also a gas cooker with seperate oven and grill, microwave, toaster and kettle. Heating was provided by a gas fire in the living room and blow heaters in the bedroom. The blow heaters didn't give out much heat and had the weather been cooler the bedroom would certainly have been chilly. You can't park by your caravan so you have to park in one of the spaces nearby and carry your belongings to the caravan. We had no problems parking as it was quiet but I can imagine parking could be an issue at busier times of the year. The water us heated by a gas water heater, ours switched off when we arrived and the instructions provided where for a different type of heater but fortunately I figured out how to switch it on. The double bed was ok but it did have a slight sag in the middle, I guess the cleaners don't think to turn the mattresses occasionally which would probably help prevent this. On our 2nd night we noticed a small stain that looked like blood on the douvet cover, as neither of us had cut ourselves we could only conclude that the stain was there previously :-S

When you check in you are each given a swipe card, these are used to access areas such as the swimming pool and gym. Our caravan was in park 2 so you also need to swipe the cards to open the pedestrian access as you have to cross a road to go from park 2 to park 1. This sounds nice and secure, however if you enter park 2 from the main road then there's no gate so anyone can come in and out which kind of defeats the object really.

We didn't use the pool or the club during our stay so can't pass comment on them, but the pool did look nice and inviting from the outside. We did have some food from the chip shop on our first night which is worth a visit and although we didn't buy anything from the site shop we did have a look around and it seemed well stocked with items which where reasonably priced.

Be warned, there's not a great deal to do and a car is a must so you can get about and visit places. The railway does run through Talacre but sadly the station was closed in 1966 so getting there by train is not an option. We'd hoped to have a walk down to the beach but sadly the weather wasn't on our side for the last couple of days so we didn't get to see it.

Overall we did enjoy our stay, however If we did decide to visit again I think we'd probably consider a higher spec of caravan.

We decided to book a weekend here as we've heard good things about it from family members & I'm glad we did. It's in a great location, there's so much to do with young children in the park & surrounding areas.

We visited bodelwyddan castle which is a nice day out, the funfair in Towyn & spent a day round the park (in the pool & then an adventure on the beach and in the sand dunes, which the kids LOVED).

Good bits-
-Nice shallow pool ( I didn't think it was that cold)
-Lovely area to sit outside and have a beer
-Small kids room which played kids films
-Chippy was amazing one night (hubby said best chips he'd had in years) but then the next time the chips were barely cooked sand needed blasting in the oven for 10 mins
Caravan
-shop on site, well stocked and not really overpriced
- small play area on site & bouncy castle at £1 a go was a hit with my 2
- our caravan was lovely and modern, appeared to be fairly new with lovely carpets and comfy beds, lovely and clean, for 8 people but as others have stated it'd be cramped with 8 in it.

The bad bits-
-parking is shocking and I'm surprised I didn't see any bumps all weekend.
- our caravan location. If u like staying on a car park with EVERYBODY looking in on you then ask to stay in caravan number 74. If not, make sure you phone up and insist you don't stay in this horrible location. Our main window was looking out onto a car park and it was the corner caravan which everyone walked past so constant car noise on 2 sides of the caravan and loud chatting (until late) on 3 sides of the caravan (road front and side and footpath at back). I will go back there as we all enjoyed our little adventures but will ensure we stay in a better caravan next time.

Room Tip: Do not stay on caravan 74 unless u like camping in a car park

what a dump. No way should this be five star rated. Our caravan was filthy. The bathroom had toothpaste spit all over the taps, pubic hair in shower cubicle the floor was filthy and the toilet had not been cleaned. Reception were not helpful they sent us back to the caravan to wait while the cleaners came. After the cleaners had gone we noticed the state of the rest, the sofa was so threadbare it had holes in it and was full of stains, the carpet smelt so bad we bought shake n vac and the childrens room had wallpaper ripped off the walls. There was food in cupoards left from previous occupants. The decline of this site in the last couple of years is very noticeable. The housekeeping team need sorting, or guests will start questionong the 5 star rating this site is supposed to have.We were very dissapointed.

Visited Talacre Beach from 21-25 April and stayed in Beechtree Lodge 3.

On the whole we had an absolutely fantastic holiday with only a couple of minor issues along the way.

Positives:
> It's a lovely site with lots of amenities and things to do should you wish.
> Really close to the beach
> Close to Prestatyn and Rhyl and other tourist attractions
> Lodge was immaculate
> Staff were friendly and helpful in all instances and came promptly when requested for maintenance issues
> Excellent fish and chip shop (huge portions) and little shop on site

Negatives:
> Parking is an utter nightmare!
> Lodge sleeps 8 however I wouldn't take more than 6. Could only fit 6 round the table, patio furniture for 4, living room seating for 4
> The tropical pool is tropical, until you get into the water. It's blummin freezing and our little one couldn't stand it
> There is a walk from park 2 to where the facilities are. The lane is pretty dark

Would definitely go back again to explore more of the area and would definitely recommend to other people.

Thanks for contributing towards a fantastic holiday!

We booked with Hoseasons and stayed in a Beech Tree lodge which was said to accommodate 8 people. There were 6 adults in our party and a toddler. We coped ok but would not recommend the lodge for 8 adults. There is lounge seating for 4 people so the others need to sit on dining chairs or the window ledge. The dining table is definitely for 6 and was very squashed with more people. There was a highchair for my granddaughter which helped.
There is lovely seating for 4 on the veranda and space in the hot tub for four. The tub is lovely and well maintained.
The lodge is adequately equipped and was clean and in good condition. The pillows were the best we have experienced in holiday accommodation!
The lodge and caravans are quite a long walk from the swimming pool and other amenities and about 5 mins walk from the sand dunes and beach, which is lovely. Miles of sand; the castle building type.
The pool is clean and safe but was a bit cold. The changing rooms are family friendly and there are lifeguards all the time. We didn't see any of the evening entertainment but did have some drinks in the bar which were reasonably priced. Can also recommend the chip shop!! Good value and very tasty!!
There's plenty to do in the area and for shopping Tesco is 3 miles away.
A well run, clean and well organised caravan site. A bit squashed in but it is the seaside. Would return.
