Review of Polesden Lacey

Polesden Lacey
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Polesden Lacey is one of the best NT properties I have visited.

The house itself is not large by mansion standards, but has a number of lovely rooms to enjoy. A nice touch is that competent pianists are invited to try the grand piano in the magnificent Golden Saloon, including on one occasion a boy of about 10, who did more than justice to the instrument!

Probably the greatest features are the gardens and the view out on to the Surrey hills.

There are two cafes, serving a reasonable choice of food and drink.

Thank John G

We took our 3 children to Polesden Lacey at the weekend. We couldn’t believe how beautifully kept the house and grounds were. We explored the house which was stunning and they even gave the children a quiz to do whilst looking to keep them entertained (great idea)! We had a picnic on the famous roll hill whilst enjoying the views. We found the natural play area and beautiful walled gardens. I would highly recommend to everyone, with children and without. Best day out in a long time. Beautiful place!

We went over the bank holiday weekend so it was full of families and children running around. In the house they were happy to have lots of kids and the guides were very busy talking to everyone. The interior is great although the written interpretation could be better, but you get the impression that it is being developed further. Outside the grounds are excellent and large enough to escape the sound of kids having fun. On a hot sunny day a great place to escape and have a picnic.

We wholeheartedly agree with all the positive feedback on the House and its beautiful location. There are also some lovely, and varied walks in the vicinity. BUT the shop staff are SO grumpy, you could be invisible?

Polesden Lacey was the site of fashionable weekend country house gatherings between the wars hosting royalty, politicians etc. It is now a National Trust property housing extensive collections of art work and preserving a lost way of life. The house is very attractive and there are many anecdotes about the house, its guests and staff. The gardens are extensive and very attractive with walled gardens and wonderful views. There is an NT restaurant and shop as well as a second hand bookshop. A good afternoon out!
