Came in without a booking on a busy Saturday night. Expected to have to sit outside, but staff managed to magic up a table inside, which was much warmer! Every member of staff we encountered was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food was pub grub but there was lots of it and a decent quality. It all made for a really nice evening. Wouldn't hesitate to return when we're next in the area.

Only live local so been here a few times before.

Having a small child makes it difficult finding places to eat out but we are never before disappointed when at the chesterfield.

Crayons and a book for the little one and very child friendly staff.

We Went tonight however and although it wasn't busy there were loads of tables in different sections reserved so no where to sit. There was no queuing system, there were couples on tables meant for 6 people and literally no spare tables despite not being busy. in the end we just walked out and went somewhere else. We counted at least 8 reserved tables at half past 6. Not happy, found somewhere else local now so won't be returning.

Me and my partner went here for the valentines menu we wernt expecting high standards as it is a budget restaurant and we were on a budget.
Normally people ask what was wrong but a better question would be what was right? Well nothing really. I'll start from when we walked through the door as it was a sign of things to come.
When we walked in we saw a woman we belived to be the manageress in a t-shirt, leggins and a cardigan, not my idea of what a manager should wear. All the other staff well some weren't wearing name tags, some were in jeans and a shirt, all of them exept one weren't wearing aprons and the ones with long hair didnt have it up properly there was strands of hair sticking out of a bobble and one girl was scratching her hair like mad when serving coustomers right near the food, nearly made me feel sick.
Before we got any food we got the complimentary small glass of wine. Well some of it was spilled on the table and we were left to clear it up.
also the table opposite was full of dessert dishes that had been finished with and the coustomers gone for 20 mins before it was cleared. And on the same table a full bottle of D10 sanitiser was left hanging off the back of one of those chairs for the entirity of our meal. It wouldn't have been good if a family with a small child sat on that table because it would play with it and wen coustomers did sit on that table the mangeress saw the bottle and left it on the chair.
Now we come to the "food". We started with the baked camembert with garlic bread and onion rings, when it came to the table it went back again as the the camembert was stone cold in the middle it was like it was just put in the microwave for 10 seconds so we sent it back just to have another one come back on the same board with the same garlic bread on and onion rings as they came back cold. At least the top of the camembert was cooked this time, the bottom was still cold. As soon as the starters were taken the mains came straightout like they were sitting on the pass for a few minuites.
For main course i had the seabass with prawns and chilli noodles and a side salad. Now i dont know how they managed it but i had a spicey salad when it wasn't supposed to be. The prawns were rubbery and the seabass must have been sitting on the side or in the oven with the skin in the oil in the frying pan because the skin was soggy and the fish was oily and seabass is not an oily fish. The noodles were just like mush and the way it read on the menu i was under the impression that the noodles and prawn would be cooked in the chilli sauce but no that was in a dip pot on the side and im sure those noodles came out of a packet. Another thing that didnt seem how it read on the menu was my fiance's main course. She had the pulled pork burger makes it sound like it would be a burger made out of pulled pork, oh no they got one of there silly square "100% beef burgers" (more like 100% cow (30% beef, 70% other bit of cow) burger) with abit of bbq smothered so it really salty, pulled pork from out of a bag shoved on top of the cow burger with a piddley bit of leaf under it with brought in chips heated in a microwave in the side.
They wanted to bring the dessert out straight away but the itchy head girl tutted when i asked if we could have a 5 min wait on desserts. Its like they want us in and out within 5 mins like they are trying to get rid of us. We are paying you money let us go at our own pace.
Now for dessert. That was ok nothin really to complain about there.
After the meal my fiance went to the toilet and came back saying it was freezing cold in the womens so i went into the mens and yes it was like a freezer in there. There are 2 cubicles and one had an empty toilet roll holder and the other had smashed tiles were the holder used to be and toilet roll on the floor soaked in urine. Also on one of the sinks there is a tap that sticks when you press it down and only stops if u pull it up all the others stop them selves, its probably still running now i used it about 1hr and 15 mins ago befor doing this review.
We then asked for the bill. The way it was advertiesd was you get a 3 course meal and a small glass of wine for £12.99 each that works out to £25.98 but we wers charged the normal menu price £10 more than the price we expected when we informed the manageress of this she said she will sort it then went and sat down talking to a coustomer while they were eating when we went up to the bar to pay we were told that nobody informed the other staff who was having the valentines meals the only person who knew was the manageress. Luckily the bill was sorted out in the end
Normally i like the chesterfield arms, never had a problem before that is why we went initially but it will be a while until i return there unless it is changed drasticly it is a shame i cant give zero for overall that is what it deserves. It is a shame really it has gone down hill badly.
