“Restful break at New Year”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2014

We live locally and decided to escape dogs and teenagers for a bit of R and R. The George and Falcon provided this perfectly. We were warmly welcomed and nothing was too much trouble for any of the very pleasant staff. Lunch, supper and breakfast all delicious. Only drawbacks...only 3 other people in the pub in the evening, so lacking ambience and breakfast is £7-95 on top of room price. ( Continental included.) Room at £75 was all there...no extras, but fine. Peeling walls in bathroom, but clean and tidy. No view, as over the kitchen, but no noise either. All in all, mission accomplished!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and we are delighted with your positive comments which are much appreciated.
You mentioned 3 drawbacks:
1) Few customers on New Years Day evening as opposed to the busy lunchtime when you arrived. We wish we knew the answer to this - it is the same every New Years Day evening, I guess the holiday celebrations have taken their toll by this time!
2) The charge for breakfast. A growing number of guests opt for continental breakfast by choice. To include a charge for a traditional breakfast when it is not taken would be inappropriate. Our room rates reflect this. Both the continental and cooked breakfast options are of high quality and freshly prepared and offer good value when compared with the breakfast charges applied by some of our competitors, especially the groups.
3) Minor cosmetic wear and tear damage in the bathroom. The room in question is scheduled for a full refurbishment in 2014. Piecemeal repair is never satisfactory.
Thanks once again and we look forward to seeing you in the future.

With a last minute decision to go out for a Sunday lunch, and never having visited this establishment before but have driven past it many times it was time to try it out.. Glad we did as we were not disappointed.
Staff very friendly, very well spaced and laid out restaurant, with a good menu as well and a good carvery as well.
Good selection of beers, coupled with prompt table service means that we will be back as this was a great find and a great location with services and prices to match

We visited The George & Falcon in Warnford as part of the Hampshire leg of our English break (we usually go abroad but fancied a change). As soon as we walked in through the door, any creeping doubts that we may have had about staying in a pub for the next 2 nights had vanished.....the place was so clean it sparkled and smelled clean too. A great early sign - "If the bar area is this well kept, then the rooms must be too" - was my theory, and I was spot on...the room was perfect...a decent size, nicely decorated, tasteful and clean!
We were given a warm welcome on arrival by Matt (Landlord & Headchef)'s Dad and the hospitality and service was consistently superb across the team. We enjoyed Matt's company - always making time to chat to us when not flat out in the kitchen..a great guy who really cares about great food and great service.
Now to the food...10/10! Great menu. Fresh food. Cooked very well indeed and presented in ways that bring a smile to your face. Matt knows his way around the kitchen. Try the burger...it takes some beating!
Oh...and breakfast was lovely too. All freshly prepared, how you want it....and presented beautifully too. A great way to start the day!
In short, Matt, the team and their lovely pub helped us have an English holiday to remember! Highly recommended....we'd go back without hesitation!

A very comfortable stay in this lovely pub. Our room was large, clean and comfortable and it had all the facilities we needed, including a full-sized bath which was most welcome after a long day walking the South Downs Way. The evening dinner was very good, as was the packed lunch made for us in the morning. Breakfast was only continental (pay extra for full English) but there was still a very good choice and plenty to eat. This pub has a reputation for its friendly service and, throughout our stay, everyone we met was friendly and charming. Highly recommended.

Ignore anyone that says this is not a fantastic find. Admittedly we did not stay overnight but we did appreciate the refurbishment of this pub having a vast array of dining table chairs but also lounging chairs to relax in if required. There was even newspapers and magazines for guests enjoyment. The service was outstanding and the waitress could not do enough. Our two labrador dogs were made very welcome too. We enjoyed the sunday carvery which for choice and taste, was the best one we have been to for a long time. I rarely take the trouble to review but I would like to see this pub full for all its efforts to make this a really pleasurable place to visit.

Happened to be passing and decided to drop in for a meal. The pub had a lovely welcoming atmosphere. We had my 97 year old mother with us and consequently some of the things on the menu were not really suitable, as it is difficult for her to manage a full meal. However, the staff were friendly and went out of their way to meet her requirements. The food was delicious and there was a lot of choice. We were also impressed with the high standard of cleanliness, especially in the cloakrooms.

We look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: We only had a meal, so we are unable to make a comment about the rooms.

3 sets of friends plus two dogs stayed here after day one of the South Downs Way. Reasonable rooms, standard pub food, good breakfast. Rooms on front are noisy. Emergency staircase eases long way to take bags to room. Waitresses could be more aware of the wines on offer

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. I sense a little disappointment in your comments and would like to respond.
Firstly, we installed new windows in all front bedroom in 2012 but were constrained by our Grade II listed building status to replacing "like for like" sash windows with no opportunity to install any secondary glazing. Regrettably, traffic noise is a 21st century issue we all have to live with to some degree.
Secondly, our waiting staff are very diligent, friendly young women who haven't yet developed a finer appreciation and knowledge of wine. Our wine list should provide sufficient information to make an informed choice. But providing both a Reserva and Crianza Rioja to your table was noted. Our mistake and we apologise.
Reviews can always be a little subjective. A fellow guest on the same evening posted the following comment:
"hidden gem
An excellent inn in the middle of nowhere with excellent service and even better food, cooked by someone who obviously takes pride and has passion!"
