“What Price Air Con?”
Reviewed 4 June 2012

Overall, a very pleasant weekend in a good hotel. Lovely grounds and position. Food in restaurant good, service not so.Wedding reception on the night we arrived, but receptionist gave us a room as far away from the noise as possible. But my main gripe was the heat, especially in the dining room. This is 2012, chaps, and whilst we`re not blessed with tropical heat it does get warm sometimes. We asked for a fan in our room so no problem there. But the restaurant, particularly at breakfast time, was very uncomfortable. Here, at least, aircon is a must. Why are we so slow to respond sometimes to customer needs? This is a good hotel striving to be taken up a notch but rain forest heat when eating is not acceptable. And the weather outside wasn`t even that warm! Urgently needs sorting.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to review the BEST WESTERN Chilworth Manor and for your recommendations for improvement.

I’m pleased you enjoyed your meal and found it to be of a high standard, my apologies that the service did not quite live up to the food.

We have invested in Air Conditioning over the years, in our Function and Event Suites our Health Club. It is often difficult to retrospectively fit Air Conditioning units in a building the age of the Manor sympathetically. All our reviews are collated and we carry out an internal review to plan our Capital Investment so your comments will be included in this process.

Thank you once again for your review

Recently stayed at Chilworth Manor in Southampton for 1 night. Lovely hotel with beautiful grounds at the front and rear of the hotel. Perfect as the sun was shining the particular day i stayed so i enjoyed an excellent lunch on the terrace overlooking the grounds. I found the staff to be friendly and attentive at all times and very chatty when discussing the local area with me. A lovely hotel i would certainly recommend to others.

Be warned - this is not a Spa! This is an ugly part timber building housing a very small, albeit upmarket private sports centre, There is certainly nothing 'Indulgent' about it! Firstly, it is not even within site of the Edwardian Manor house they market this place on the back of. No adequate lounge seating, two toilets and 4 showers shared between what was on the day I was there, 12 Spa day customers as well as their members! Lunch was the tiniest wrap I have ever seen! No where to lie down or relax after massage treatment. A few loungers and charis beside the pool were very uncomfortable and so long as you are happy to spend an entire day in the pool environment then you will love this place!
The one sofa and chair in a very cramped reception area with a table set up for spa customers to help themselves to juice, water, coffee or tea. The water and juice is served in an open top jug ,,,,,warm - disgusting! The most disappointing spa day I have ever had! Do not waste tour money time or effort!

Interesting building- old Manor with new rooms added on. We stayed in new part- room small but modern, comfortable and clean. Some noise as Hotel well used for weddings and cruise passengers as well as transfers to Airport. Very convenient for Airport and Cruise terminals. Easy to find and lovely grounds- in part backing onto a Science Park as well as Conservation area for Chilworth - a very upmarket area of Southampton. Buffet breakfast one of the best we have had- in part because of the quick turnaround of the tables and throughput of guests. Only there for one night- attending a function in Romsey- but given easy access to Motorway network and surrounding attractions would stay again.

We decided to use this hotel as part of our Cruise package "Park & Cruise" and from entering the big sweeping drive to the hotel itself we knew we had chosen a good hotel. The receptionists were very polite and didn't keep us hanging around at all.
Our rooms were what we have come to expect from Best Western - clean and spacious. All the staff were exremely pleasant and made us (4) very welcome, we had unlimited tea & coffee, which was on hand all our stay and we had breakfast included, very nice. We decided to eat in the restaurant for Dinner the eve before we left and again the service was oustanding - we can see why this hotel seemed to be full, no faults at all. If we decided to visit Southampton again we would definitely stay here. Our Cruise was another matter - my review is on the cruise critic forum.

What a difference two years make....

I last visited CM a little over 2 years ago, before they became part of Best Weston.

Nothing much has changed since then, though one noticeable difference was the restaurant had become busier, which for me was a good sign for a Monday evening.

The staff appeared busy, but not in an efficient way, they kept getting the table orders wrong. One couple next to me, must have been asked 3 times if they had ordered steak!

I had to wait 45 mins for my starter, which was in parts raw. I ordered the wood pigeon. The main course Salmon was much quicker, but was full of bones. I accept a small quantity, but I feel on this occasion was a little over excessive.

I'm due back to Southampton in the next couple of weeks, but I think on this occasion with go down the road the the Hilton.

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking the time to offer a review of the BEST WESTERN Chilworth Manor.

Repeat business is what we strive to achieve as it demonstrates we are doing the right things. It’s obviously disappointing to hear you may try another local Hotel next time you are in the area.

Although we are branded Best Western we are an independently owned and have the had the same owners since 2001 along with the same Management team. We have a new Restaurant Manager due to start early June and I’m sure with his experience he will be able to offer guidance to the team.

As you mentioned we do operate a busy Restaurant and as a whole our service is excellent and the younger members of the team have performed brilliantly during the short period we have had without a Restaurant Manager.

We hope to be able to welcome you back to the BEST WESTERN Chilworth Manor in the future

Thank you once again for your review
