As you approach the hotel you are thinking that it looks very good. Check in staff were all helpful and then you go to your room and the illusion of luxury soons ebbs away.

We booked a family room which turned out to be exactly the same as any other room, but with two of the oldest squeakiest and thinnest camp beds I have ever seen wedged in the room. We were sleeping four abreast with no space to walk around any of the beds.

I can report that the kitchen staff start very early as our room was right above them and they certainly enjoyed loudly stacking the glasses at 6am!

The whole decor of the place outside of the main reception and bar areas is tired and old fashioned.

We were booked in for two nights but cut our losses after The first night and went somewhere else. I let the staff know why we were leaving early. They made all the right noises but clearly had heard it all before and seemed uninterested.

Shame really, as the hotel promised so much, yet delivered so little.

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for letting us know of your recent experience at the hotel. I was glad to read that you enjoyed some aspects of your stay.

I was sorry to learn that you were inconvenienced by a delivery early in the morning; we have re enforced our expectations to all the suppliers who deliver to the Kitchens.

The stunning sweeping drive up to the hotel entrance will promise high standards, luxury, and a 5 star treatment. The hotel foyer has pleasant friendly helpful staff with a beautiful décor backdrop. Then you get behind the scenes to the rooms and what a let-down. Boxy and very Premier Inn, which if you’re booked into a Premier Inn is fine, but when you’re booked into something which promises so much but delivers so little it’s a bit of a disappointment. Dinner and breakfast was back to the high standards the rooms don’t deliver. We intend to stay again but in the old part of the house and hopefully we shall have what is promised by the rest of the hotel.

Room Tip: Beware of the newer part of the hotel as you'll get prefab rooms. Unless you are after a prefab...

Dear reviewer,

Many thanks for taking the time to offer feedback on your recent stay with us.

It is very nice to be compared to a 5 star Hotel for our entrance, grounds, Manor building and your warm welcome. We are a 3 star Hotel, and proud to be the best rated 3 star Hotel in Southampton.

I am delighted to read that you felt the food was of a high standard and that you will be returning again in the future.

We have 95 bedrooms, some of which are in the original Edwardian Manor and the remaining rooms are in the Garden Wing, which was added in 1989, the rooms are not prefabricated.

Thank you once again for your review.

We stayed at the hotel last weekend with another family, booking through Poultons Park, advertised as child friendly. We had a lovely day at the park, then came the time to check in. Reception staff looked as though they couldn't wait to go home, when we entered the bar of the hotel, which you had to go through to get to your rooms, we saw a wedding reception and had to weave our way through the guests, with 2 toddlers and luggage no easy task!
Upon entering our rooms, the children's beds looked straight out of army camp, right down to the green blanket. Still the children found their Peppa Pig activity pack and were happy. It wasn't until I sat on the floor to play with them I noticed the carpet was dirty and the join coming apart. The bathroom had paint splashes on the toilet and large mark on the floor, the taps had no markings to say which was hot or cold, not helpful to children. The curtains were threadbare and coming apart.
We decided upon looking at the menu to eat out! on leaving we noticed a hen party coming in, and were advised there was two wedding receptions and a hen party that night, none of which we were informed of on our time of booking or we would have booked elsewhere! On returning, around 8pm it was time to get the toddlers to bed, one light out of 3 was working in the ceiling fitting and as it was warm we had the window open, to sounds of noisy guests a disco and a bouquet throwing! The music going on till midnight.
The kettle was placed on a low table, not suitable for children. The internet was described as high speed, far from it. My friends room had a broken lock window, which on the 1st floor with an adventurous toddler was not wise, the staff however did fix this straight away after they were quoted with the correct legislation.
Breakfast was good, the sausages superb. Checking out was good, although we did have to go get the car as parking very inadequate.

Dear Guest,

I am sorry that you felt that you had a poor stay with us. It is the detail that can very often make the difference between a good and bad stay. We will certainly have to look into the comments you make; we pride ourselves on our standards of cleanliness. I shall discuss your feedback with Cheryl; the Head Housekeeper.

We are a multi functional Hotel, we're a popular wedding and events venue, offer spa breaks, romantic breaks as well as family breaks.

We were unable to make you aware of the functions taking place, as you did not book directly with us, there is no functionality on the Peppa Pig site to make guests aware of function taking place.

Thank you for your comments.

Stayed as part of a weekend wedding party, whilst the hotel and its grounds are very nice and relaxing its really a money maker as a wedding venue factory and boy do they churn em out.

The good!
Really nice hotel, helpful receptionist staff and on a sunny weekend a great location.

The bad!
Wedding factory, at least two wedding receptions going on simutaniously (our wedding was on the Sunday) and inadequatly staffed to cope with the mass of numbers for both receptions and other guests staying (one person manning the bar against a queue full of people waiting to be served). This was made worse as everytime the bar ran low he had to go and get supplies, no support no management presence to take control. I also overheard guests saying at the other bar at the back of the hotel this was the same with a reception of 150+ people.

The ugly!
I have to echo other comments the food here is shockingly terrible. We ate as a wedding party on the Saturday night of the set menu and what was presented was dire. Watery tomato packet soup, a small triangle of pate, along with salad that looked like it had either been part frozen or had come straight from the bin.

The majority of our party had steaks which was tough and inedible and with a local blue cheese sauce even though I did not ask for it. I guess the kitchen knew they were producing rubbish so masking it with sauce might hoodwink the punters, it did'nt. Even the chips were oddly pre seasoned with salt and vinager (Brakes McCains??), really with a steak??? And even more salad fresh from the bin (horrible, watery and slimy). Our party did complain and although we received apologies and refunds it does not excuse garbage being served from the kitchen.

This poor attention to detail continued through to breakfast with dirty uncleared tables, breakfast with items missing as staff unable to cope with demand of a very busy weekend, horrible stewed undrinkable coffee made for a depressing start to the day. I find it hard to fathom that if a professionally run hotel knows its full it staffs itself accordingly not just muddle through and see how we go.

The staff were very young, under manned and no direction (very little management presence) and my overall impression is that as a wedding factory that as parties have pre paid they can rely on this revenue stream and not aim at the potential repeat business from associated guests. Its a shame as the accomodation and location is not bad it fall down badly with service and food.

My advice for anyone either wishing to stay or hold their wedding here, don't, go elsewhere to avoid disappiontment!

Stayed for a week as I was on business
Rooms were large enough and generally clean although my room had a very musty smell which required me to keep the window open at all times.
The breakfast was of a good standard however the evening meals were of a very very low standard? No value for money here! The menu itself is interesting but the final product needs a lot of changes for example hot soup ...... Should be served hot and should taste like soup not cream. There is no need to drown the fish in olive oil they are already dead! The chicken Caesar salad should resemble a Caesar salad?

I will not be back for the food

My girlfriend and I stayed at Chilworth Manor on a park and cruise deal. We were impressed by the service, food and setting of the hotel and enjoyed ourselves very much. This enjoyment was definitely aided as we were upgraded to one of their suites on arrival!

Our room was excellent and I'd certainly recommmend sitting on the terrace looking out into the grounds on a sunny day with a drink it hand, it made for a very relaxing start to our holiday.

The service was excellent from the moment we arrived to when we collected our car a week later after the cruise. Our main dissappointment was not booking to stay for a night on our return before we made our way home!

The hotel suited our needs perfectly for this trip.

Spent the day here with the girls for my friends Hen Party I arranged.

From the moment we entered the Club we were greeted by very friendly & helpful staff, we were given robes & explained our itinerary for the day.

We all had 30 min treatments which were perfect & made us all very relaxed! The girls from the Spa are very friendly, polite & make you feel very welcome & showed genuine interest in our day. Pool, sauna, stream room & Jacuzzi facilities were brilliant & everything is clean with a warm, relaxing vibe.

Lunch at the club was presented very well & was very tasty! We ate outside in the terrace area which is lovely when the suns out, I had arranged for Champaign to be bought out after lunch which really made the Hens day special. We were asked on many occasions if we were enjoying our self & if we needed anything at all, the staff really could not do anymore for us & were happy to do anything they could. Customer service at The Club is defiantly 5*

We all had such a brilliant day & the staff really couldn’t do enough for us, i would defiantly recommend this place for anybody wanting a relaxed day/weekend or even just a paper session!
