We stayed at this hotel on a Cruise & Stay Package. It was very good value and included bed, breakfast and dinner plus 14 nights parking and a taxi to/ from Southampton Port. Our room was very nice - Dorothy Sayers Suite - overlooking the gardens. For main course at dinner I had Fish & Chips (surprisingly there was no Tartare Sauce available!) but the meal was good and with friendly service.Good buffet breakfast. All the staff we met were helpful and I would recommend this hotel for a pre-cruise stay

Thank you for your positive review, I am very pleased you enjoyed your time with us. I trust it was a good start to a luxury cruise.

We are about to introduce and upgrade package for our cruise guests, where you can upgrade from a taxi to a chaffeur driven car, have treatments in our Spa the morning you depart and much more. These packages will be available from Januray 2011.

Sincerely

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend break booked through the Tesco Voucher Scheme. Having read some reviews I was a little sceptical about what we might discover but overall was pleasantly surprised. It was good to get away to have a chilled weekend and we achieved that.
Staff were pleasant, the room was clean and well positioned and the pool was a good place to do some lengths and relax.
Of course there are some areas that need investment but it’s a large old building and they are notoriously difficult and expensive to maintain. So hats off to the staff for doing what they can with what they’ve got.
Staff - positive note – on Friday night we asked reception for directions to the local Chilworth Arms Pub, one staff member who I think was a porter just going off shift gave directions but then as he said he was heading off and lived nearby walked with us so we could find the way.- Very kind and much appreciated as the local lanes are quite dark.
Staff negative note – Saturday morning - customers don’t really want to see waiting staff in the restaurant checking and sending texts during breakfast service – a minor slip perhaps.
Overall a good stay and ideal if you want to pop down to New Forest for the day or hit the shops of Southampton.

Thank you for your detailed review, I'm very pleased overall you had an enjoyable experience with us. Steve and his maintenance team do a great jon in the upkeep of this large Manor House and all it's 12 acres of grounds. We are currently investing in our bedroom.

Sam is the porter who escorted you to the Chilworth Arms, I think he's a regular there so was probably on auto pilot when escorting you!

The mobile phone usage hasn't been an issue in the past, our Restaurant Manager Claudio has been made aware of your comments and will rectify it.

We hope to see you at the Manor again sometime soon.

We stayed at CMH recently prior to going on a cruise,we ummed and aahed at whether we should stay somewhere cheaper and thought sod it it's our holiday! We were not disappointed.
The hotel is set in a lovely position the building is glorious to look at and the food was fit enough for the gods, I have not tasted such quality in a month of sundays.
We shall be back the next time we set sail, or may even just pick it as a base for the south coast.

Thank you for your positive review, although we maybe towards the higher priced end of the Hotels offerring a pre cruise package, we feel for the service and facilities we have it is still good value for money and I'm glad you agree with us.

We look forward to welcoming you back time and time again before you set sail on your luxury cruises.

We stayed from the 8th until the 12th of October for a birthday treat. The staff were friendly and obliging. The room we had was clean and had a great view of the gardens.
The meals were great and the restuarant staff were very professional in their conduct.
We aould say the hotel altough maybe needing a touch of paint here and there was nearer to a 4 star.
The grounds were lovely and we could see why it was popular with wedding functions.

I arrived at the hotel and was impressed with the building and the grounds - a lot of history here. I was greeted by a friendly and helpful receptionist and from then on things went downhill. My room seemed clean but when you really looked the light fittings were dusty and had cob webs hanging from them, the artificial flowers in the corner were festooned with cob webs. The bath was chipped and a feeble attempt had been made to cover the chip with paint that did not match, the bath filled so slowly I could have gone and had dinner and it still would not have been full.
On a positive note the breakfast was plentiful and very fresh but the waiting staff really need to learn to smile (i know it was 7.15 in the morning). On checking out the computer system went down and it took about 15 minutes to complete the checkout procedure and there was not so much as an apology.
I would not stay at this hotel again which is a shame because the grounds are beautiful and it is quiet location.

Thank you for taking the time to review our Hotel, I can see you had quite a mixed stay whilst with us, and I apologise for the delay with your check out and with the dust in your bedroom.

There is no excuse for dust and I will be discussing this matter with Cheryl and Marlo in Housekeeping immediately.

Many Thanks

Booked 2 nights at the Chilworth using Tesco Clubcard vouchers so cost little more than the price of the 4 breakfasts that we ate. Breakfasts were very good, ample choice and no portion size limit, but restaurant limited in size so when busy at weekend people either had to wait or eat in a nearby room. No big deal for us but others less pleased.

Menu options not tempting enought to eat there in the evening but can highly recommend Prezzo in nearby Romsey.

Good location for the New Forest (the purpose of our trip) and nice hotel and grounds. Pool excellent but little disappointed that no direct access from the main hotel building, short walk across car park needed so no wandering down in a dressing gown.

As for the room, adequate size but bed too soft (in our opinion), doors thin so noise from corridor & lift and also would mark down due to lack of a fridge.

If you can get at lower than rack or looking for overnight before cruise, certainly worth considering.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for your review, I am pleased you felt we were good value for money. Since partnering with Best Western in July of this year we have had an awesome amount of Tesco Club Card holders use there well earned points and stay with us.

I'm pleased that you enjoyed our hearty breakfast, our restaurant can hold 85 guests at any one time and the adjacent room another 30, on extremely busy days we prefer to offer guests the adjacent room to dine in rather than an enforced wait like at other Hotels, in general this works very well.

We will be adding a further 15 luxury beds to our stock on th e13th October and a further 20 in February.

It's also great to see you took the short drive to the New Forest, worth a trip for anyone visiting the area. We're positioned perfectly to explore the South Coast with quick links to Winchester, Bournemouth, Portsmouth and ofcourse the New Forest.

Thank you for your review.

Buildings interesting and site very pleasant, but the hotel's potential to be really good is sadly let down by an apparent total lack of interest in providing good service. Two pleasant members of staff in restaurant - others hopeless. Duty manager more interested in moving a folding bed than in speeding up the half-hour wait to check-out (delay apparently mainly attributable to receptionist not understanding the computer system). Inability of receptionist to multi task. Charging issue resolved without grace and without apology (substantial charges from another room added to our bill erroneously). Duty manager not interested in assisting. Breakfast late opening. Hotel car park filled with "Park & Cruise" clients' cars so it was impossible to park near the hotel - overnight guests had to park in the far secluded corners of the site. Staff unable to resolve internet access issues. Cleaning patchy - furniture in bar area very dusty indeed, clump of dust/hair in bed. Food not bad but whole experience sad because of lack of any acceptable level of customer care. In summary - disappointing

Dear Guest,

I am obvioulsy disappointed to hear that there were some service related issues during your stay, and I would like to offer you my sincere apologies if you were not totally satisfied.

As a whole the Hotel performs very well and I think this is demonstrated in most review sites feedback and the huge amount of compliment letters/emails we recieve weekly. Our team is made up of service professionals that have been with us for the most part over six years which gives us a solid platform to offer excellent service.

On the occassion you stayed with us it does appear that we did not reach our usual high standards. Your review will be discussed at our weekly management meeting and I will work with Housekeeping, Reception and Duty Managers to ensure the procedures we have in place are being followed.

Thank you very much for taking the time to list your review, we appreciate all feedback recieved.
