“Perfect for a short stay”
Reviewed 14 April 2013

This is one of those places that does exactly what it says on the tin. We stayed in Totton as me and my friend were doing the Wiggle cycling event in the New Forest. The rooms are clean and basic. My room did't have an en-suite bathroom but this didn't bother me and the showers that were available were more than adequate. It is quite noisy and seems to have quite a few live in residents, so its more of a hostel really. Anyway the good points are plentiful, the management were helpful and friendly, the car park is spacious and the cooked breakfast was fantastic.
If you're planning a short stay the Brimar Guest House is ideal.

We were going on a cruise from Southampton on a Monday and given the potential for traffic hold ups and weather-related problems, we decided to travel on the Sunday. The Brimar was easy to find, being a short distance off the motorway network. We were given a warm, friendly welcome and shown to a very clean, tidy room that provided everything we needed for our stay. The car park gave us somewhere safe to leave our car. After a good breakfast on the Monday, it only took about 20 minutes to drive to the cruise terminals in Southampton. Travelling on the Sunday meant we were very relaxed and ready to start our holiday on the Monday.

Room Tip: The double en-suite we were provided with was fine.

Although clean with a good breakfast, this B&B is more a backpackers hostel. We chose it as it had Internet, parking and breakfast. Internet did not work from Friday to Monday and parking was first in only. It was very noisy both from road and other residents. Surrounding area was industrial and restaurants weren't very good. Really disappointing experience.

I Stayed one night,i must say really surprised how friendly, helpful the staff are.Large car park at the rear of the guest house, location only 3min walk to the train station, only 10 min drive to Southampton, where you have great shopping, cruise ships terminals. I had a single room, the size was fine, was a shared shower room. Breakfast was very good. The cost was £35.. Would stay again.

Originally booked for 2 nights but could only stand 1 night, having read the reviews and web site felt happy we had made the right booking. This guest house although very clean and offering a superb breakfast is NOT for families or tourists. We were the only tourists there, the rest of the guests were contractors and this guest house is set up for contractors/workmen. When we finally managed to get some sleep from the noise of the the busy road in front of the guest house and the dual carriageway right behind, we were woke by workmen returning at 1am from their workplace and then the ritual of them showering and going back and fourth up and down the corridor to the kitchen to make drinks/food etc. with doors banging and talking. The noise eventually settled down again only to be woken at 5am to go through exactly the same ritual. It was pleasing to see all these merry men to and from their work but in hindsight we chose the wrong B&B for the kind of stay we wanted and I do feel neither the reviews or website gave us any inclination as to what to experienced. Didn't complain to the managers, did not see the point, what could they have done, out of pocket having paid for 2 nights and having to spend all day Saturday looking for alternative B&B for that night (which we did and a good nights sleep was had by all).

Found previous (?) occupiers mail in guest book. Arrived late at night & appeared to be alot more cars in car park than rooms, we managed to get the last space. The rooms were equipped with plenty of soaps & shower gels & towels & bed linen were clean. When we arrived for breakfast at 7.45, we were scowled at by the chef, breakfast we were told is 7.00-8.15, though the guide said 7.30-8.30. Breakfast is ok to be fair, but the offer of more toast & tea would have been nice. I would not pick this establishment to stay if I was taking my girlfriend away for a romantic weekend, shame given its locality to the New Forest.

I spent three beautifull days in Southampton ( Boat fair).Every day I went by train (the trip takes 6 min. ) from Totton to Southampton. Train station in Totton is a 5 minute walk from Hotel.
Brimar Guest House is best B&B in UK. Rooms are small but very comfortable and clean, and the beds are perfect for sleeping.English breakfast, good quality and rich. This Hotel has a suprise. On the first floor is a small kitchen, so that guest can prepare their own food. The kitchen has everithing you need for cooking, and even some food. But as far as food, you do not need to worry because in the vicibity of the hotel is several restaurants and shops.Internet WI-FI is super.
Next year Southampton Boat show I will be back.
