This was one of the most disappointing stays we've had at a guesthouse in the UK and they are definitely overpriced for what they offer. The staff are surly and do not seem pleased to be there; nor to have you there as a guest. We did not get so much as a ''Welcome'' when we arrived or even a ''We hope you enjoyed your stay'' when we checked out.

8am on both Saturday and Sunday is when they tip the empty bottles from the bar into the glass recycling bin at the back of the property. We know this because the bin was outside our window and we were jolted awake both mornings to the sounds of crashing glass. Following this, the gas bottles and trolley used to transport them were bashed around and wheeled into the building - again, right outside our window and first thing on a weekend.

The bedrooms are decidedly average and most certainly not at the level of an establishment that charges £90 per night. The mattresses are soft and pillows uncomfortable. Perhaps it explains why there are only 3 carefully chosen images of their rooms on their website.

Possibly the only redeeming feature of this inn is the food. The pub served very good food on the evening we chose to eat there and although the cold breakfast bar leaves much to be desired, the cooked English Breakfast was edible.

Room Tip: On the advice of another Tripadvisor review we asked for rooms away from the road but the noise goin...

We went to Chequers Inn for a 50th birthday party and stayed for B&B. There's a function room where the party was held, we had pre-ordered the food, and the food was marvellous, I had a pear and walnt salad to start, followed by roast duck, and tiramisu to finish. The staff were polite and helpful whilsy being unobtrusive. The room we stayed in was comfortable and warm, with a good bed, although the TV was a bit small. Breakfast was traditional, and didn't start until 8:30 which is ok for a weekend - again good food and good service. Overall a good place to stay, plenty of easy parking, lots of beers to choose from.

Lovely pub, lots of regulars crowd into the small space which makes for a good friendly atmosphere. Rooms are clean and pleasant but not cheap. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Local area is nice English countryside with a few old towns such as High Wycombe and a few gastro-pubs and good quality restaurants. Breakfast was good and rapidly served when ordering cooked items. I had to ask for a repair in the bathroom which was done the same day - good response. Overall pleasant place not a bargain break. they do have seasonal specials, so ask.

One note - this is an old building with thin walls and wooden floors, dont expect silence.

Room Tip: the 4 poster room is the biggest and has a sofa-bed for extra guests but is significantly more expen...

Met up with friends at this country inn for lunch and drinks having been before just over a year ago. Really nice traditional unspoilt pub which has a very welcome feel to it. Super selection of real ale. The bar menu and specials board has a great selection of well cooked and presented food. Good attentive service. A real locals pub. Accommodation available and a small function room off the main bar. Have a look at the website for a guide to the bar and restaurant menu's. I would certainly go again when I am in the area and would recommend the food there whether a bar snack or evening dining. My friends are locals to this inn and say it is consistently good.

Overall we had a nice stay here. The room was a little on the small side but very clean and the bed comfortable. We booked through booking.com and paid £90. I think that is reasonable but I was glad we hadn't paid the Full rate of £107.50.
The location was pretty good and it was very quiet until the traffic started up early morning, as our room overlooked the road outside. It's not the busiest of roads but if you're a light sleeper you may want to ask for a room at the back.
If anything the service was a little over the top and a bit pushy when asking us to write a review for them but the staff were very helpful.
The food in the bar was pretty good and reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road at the front if you are a light sleeper.

Chequers is a lovely, quiet hotel. I had a comfortable night in a quiet room and enjoyed a long walk along the lanes amd woods the next morning. The breakfast was excellent and I was impressed with all the staff I met.
