The one thing missing is toilets!!! Lots of wildlife, if you are able climb steps to the lighthouse for terrific view.

The Blackhead Coastal Path is looking very spring like these days. Only St. Patrick's weekend and the sun is giving off some great warmth. The views across to Scotland are breath taking. The birds are in full voice through the caves. And flowers are beginning to peep through. It's great to see the Path is still being enjoyed by so many. Don't let the new sign at the start of the path distract you. The path is very clean, nature is doing its job.

I saw lots of dolphins here today. There were perhaps 4 or 5, one was clearly a small calf, staying right next to its mother. They were surfacing to breathe in a patch of water offshore from where people are often seen fishing, just before you get to Black Head lighthouse. An amazing thing to see. A lady called Barbara told us, and we told others, and groups gathered to gasp and hoot in delight as the animals' backs broke the surface again and again. I'll include an odd montage photo of some of the shots I took.

Even without that, the walk today was spectacular. Crazy cliffs of volcanic rock, like swiss cheese. Beaches, sea caves, glacial erratics, rock pools. A peregrine falcon flew over us! We saw fulmar, oystercatchers, and cormorants. Looking at my fuzzy, faraway dolphin pictures there were some kind of auks further out. The many people you meet taking the walk are always friendly. There are sculptures and an outdoor gym. It's all on a level until you get right out to the cliffs. There the fitter among us can go right up several different routes to the clifftop. Dazzling views. But today was all about watching the dolphins. Amazing. I'll be back!

This is one of the reasons why I came back to this country! People worked to restore the path, and now it is open again to the public. It is so good, you have to go see it.

this is a lovely walk with steps up and or down,if you want to push yourself for fittness, the views are outstanding and the long flat walk is easy to meander if you just want to chill and enjoy the fresh air. there are little bays to wander along the short beach or for kids to look among the rock pools.....a beautiful part of the world..
