Kapishya Hot Springs Lodge
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 January 2014

We had a wonderful stay (if too short) at Kapishya hot springs, after arriving late to the lodge (driving down from Tanzania) we were given a great welcome with lovely home cooked food. We stayed in one of the lodges one night and then camped the next night, both were great and the campsite was well equipped with hot showers and BBQ pits right next to the river. We enjoyed the hot springs and also looking around Shiwa Ng'andu which was very interesting.
Thank you very much to Mark the team and look forward to coming back and staying it bit longer next time. We highly recommend a trip here.

Kapishya Hot Springs was a great way to start off the new year! Very relaxing and a wonderful environment. We felt very much at home. Lots to do if you want, or just relax. Nearby rock paintings were amazing. A walk up a hill gave great views. Massages done by local Zambian women, they were great. I love the way they run everything there, producing and using as much locally made and grown products as possible. I highly recommend!

On our way driving south from Nairobi to Lusaka. We were a day late due to car troubles and ended up arriving at lunch time on the 31st of December asking if there was still room in the campsite. We were immediately invited to join the New Years Eve festivities which included an amazing firework display, delicious meal and bubbles!
Everyone was so warm and friendly. Fantastic Hosts.

As you arrive at kapishya you notice all the care that has been taken over the gardens - hundreds of plants and flowers, neatly set out, many of which are labelled. This is typical of kapishya - care is taken over the detail. Chalets are made from hand carved local wood, delicious food is prepared by mell (think quiches and salads for lunch, home made soup, moussaka and lovely puds at dinner -and sometimes even cheeses afterwards!), and mark ensures guests make the most of the activities on offer (and is a fount of local knowledge). We went to visit The Africa House, spent a lazy afternoon plunging in and out of the hot springs and cool swimming pool, and walked to the top of a close hill to see the view.

Do spend more than a day here, and don't miss it if you are visiting north luangwa. Kapishya is not cheap, but is worth the money (and if chalets are too expensive, the camping spot is idyllic).

This place is, in one word, spectacular. Africa has received a lot of bad press over the years, but this place is particularly welcoming. The journey to Kapishya itself is quite the experience and adds to the excitement and suspense as to what awaits!

Upon arriving, you are greeted by luscious gardens and friendly staff. We stayed in one of the very comfortable lodges, but there is also a camp site for those that are looking to save a bit. The natural hot springs are the ultimate delight regardless of the time of day you visit them.
I wouldn't, for one second, hesitate recommending this place to anyone.

If you have the time, I would highly recommend visiting North Luangwa National Park where owner Mark runs 'Buffalo Camp'. This is Safari truly at it's best.

Thanks for all the memories, I hope to be back soon!

Room Tip: If you can get one of the rooms close to the dinner, they're stunning!

We arrived at Kapishya after a gruelling few days on the road from Katavi in Tanzania and what a surprise . An Eden in Africa. Lush gardens, fantastic bird life, a riverside campsite and the beautiful natural hot springs. We basked by the pool, wallowed in the warm springs and watched the palmnut vultures at their endless task of picking at the palm nuts.
We immediately decided to stay a few nights and were made to feel at home by Mark and Mel. We had a few late nights at their cosy bar telling stories of Africa and hearing all about the fascinating history of the family. Delicious food, home grown organic produce and home raised meat.
Topped off with a visit to Shiwa N'gandu to see Sir Stuarts dream being brought back to life and to get further insights into this incomparable character.

Truly great place, Mark is as entertaining as you can get with great stories and a few late nights... Planned 1 night stayed 5.... And then onto and back from Buffalo camp in North Luangwa, also used it as a base back and forth from Ndole Bay. Hot springs simply awesome, especially after an 8 hour drive... Rooms all individual and meet all needs, meals simple and far to much. After travelling most of Zambia this place and Shiwa should be at the top of an travellers list.

Room Tip: All good and all different, some would say a bit odd but we stayed in 3 different and all great.
