Certificate of Excellence

My family and some friends visited Best Zeit hotel in Parpan at end of June, 2014. This was part of our 18 day long Europe tour and we landed in Parpan, Switzerland for a look at Alps on the side where most visitors don't go. What a experience? What an incredible experience it was?

Hotel is run by a couple- Conrad and Olivia. Conrad and Olivia took care of us. First, we had special dietary needs (vegetarian)- Conrad found a way to help us in this small village. Not just help, it was a great authentic swiss vegetarian food in Alps. Then we wanted to do some sight seeing. Olivia arranged a discounted set of tickets to nearby cable car that took to top of mountain. We saved over €400 ( group of 18). Hats off Olivia- you went out of the way to save us money. Next, some of us wanted to go hiking. We asked for recommendations. Conrad came out of way to take us to hiking trail. He not only accompanied us, he carried lots of snacks in his backpack for us to enjoy on the trail. I had never had a nut cake- special from Parpan, Switzerland. He also made special drink- raspberry tea- (note- he made himself in his kitchen for us). Hospitality is not just hotel stay- it's the the experience around it. This was unforgetful experience. Definitely most memorable one of my life.

Thank you Conrad and Olivia for making it happen. Best of luck.

We chose this hotel for a long ski weekend for my husband's birthday. We can't quite explain why but it was the best skiing we ever experienced despite the unfortunate weather (snow storm on one day and half the lifts closed the next day due to strong winds). Hotel is walking distance from ski lifts, situated among fairy-tale swiss chalets with picturesque views on all sides. Parpan is a charming little village and the hotel itself very relaxing. Decorated in a contemporary style with lots of natural wood and fabrics. Super clean. Great spa, excellent lounge area near the reception, where we enjoyed afternoon aperitifs by the fireplace and watched the snow falling outside through the large windows… Very romantic. Superb front-desk service, both on the phone and in person. Excellent breakfast with the best locally-made forest fruit preserves you've ever tasted. We bought two jars to take home. The only downside at Bestzeit is dinner. Beautiful dining room with ambient lighting, top quality wine glasses and silverware and the food itself... disappointing. We tried both a la carte and half-board, it just didn't work. Also, everyone on the wait staff was very young and very nervous, almost as if they were trying too hard. The hotel is brand new so maybe they just need to get some experience but the menu definitely needs to be improved.

Do try the local attraction: the fondue restaurant Tschugga. Unforgettable experience! First, you climb the mountain and enjoy pots of cheese fondue in a traditional setting. Afterwards, it's a long sled ride down a specially prepared slope (you rent the sleds for 4 CHF pp). We are both almost 40 and were laughing and screaming like little kids. Will definitely visit Parpan again if given the chance. P.S. The hotel can arrange special discounts on ski passes and rental.

Room Tip: Book a larger room or a suite, if available. The standard rooms are comfortable but very small. The...

The basic elements of the hotel were very good; the room, bathroom, balcony, location, wellness area, outside bar area, underground parking, ski storage.

However the service was lacking.
Check-in and check-out took a long time.
There was a lack of staff at breakfast.
The towels and refreshments ran out in the wellness area and no staff replenished them.
We were told about the set menu and advised to make a table reservation in the restaurant which we did. However on arrival we were told we could not have the set-menu since we had not reserved it when we booked the table. Also at check-out we were asked whether we had used the hotel ski-passes, but were not made aware of this possibility when we checked-in.

If the staff were better trained and communicated properly with the guests then it would have been a much better experience and worthy of the hotel's 4* rating.

Lets keep it short. This hotel is a perfect role model for all Swiss hotels in general that did not yet arrive in the year 2013. The hotel is fresh, modern, friendly staff, well constructed for all your skiing gear, and with a great little spa.

We stumbled upon this brand-new structure thru the web, when looking for opportunities for a “getaway-before-it’s-too-late”, after an upcoming torrid weekend was announced in our region for the first days of August. The hotel is located in Parpan, a small village a few km outside Lenzerheide, the renown ski and mountain resort in the heart of the Swiss Graubündner Alps. As you probably guess nothing comes at a bargain price up here especially during peak season. Anyway, we booked a suite at Bestzeit Hotel for two nights, grabbed a few clothes "just in case" and went for it. The region is really stunning and the hotel’s location, a bit outside Lenzerheide, is ideal for a peaceful and relaxing experience out of the crowd but still very near to various attractions. The establishment opened last December, is run by a young team and was built with a strong modern - northern - minimalist accent to explicitly target a serious all-year sports audience (to which admittedly we do not belong, but that would bring us off-topic). It features a variety of free facilities (sauna, finnarium, Kneipp-area, relax-area etc.), a dedicated sports shop and packaged offers for outdoor activities suitable for both winter season (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing) as well as summertime (hiking, hard-core mountain-biking). Unfortunately for the international audience, virtually all brochures are written in German but you’ll realize that this applies rather to the whole region, not just to this hotel. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a very friendly staff who introduced us to a little wizardry of this place, namely the room keys. Yes. These personalized “magic keys” not only grant you access to your room, to the wellness area and to the free parking garage downstairs: they give you unlimited access – free of charges – to the local cable cars, gondola lifts and chairlifts as well. Well, that’s service! The suite itself, located on the first floor and very essentially furnished, is reasonably large, has wooden floor, features a balcony, was perfectly clean and had a huge bathroom providing both a bath tub and a shower cabin. Each room has its dedicated free wifi network and, for the networking addicts, an iPad will be your companion during the stay. As a side note, please be aware that there are no in-room bar nor safe boxes nor air conditioning. We slept perfectly and peacefully, even with a slightly open window. Breakfast buffet is served at the hotel’s restaurant in the basement and features a rich variety of foods (the alp butter is a must). The restaurant daily offers a 3-courses menu, if switching to half board tariff. We decided to have dinner there on first evening, found it delicious, served with a smile, and rather inexpensive. The second day we switched back to B&B and at evening we had dinner in a nearby restaurant called “Obertorstübli” (inside Hotel Alpina, definitively worth a try both for its renown gastronomy as for the ambience). During our stay our “magic keys” granted us a ride with the cable car to the top of the Parpaner Rothorn, which, proudly scratching 3’000m, offers a 360 deg. breathtaking view into gorges and abysses with pathways along crests and ridges staging a semi-science-fiction landscape not suitable for the faint of heart, definitively inappropriate if you are sensitive to dizziness. Amazing. The day after, we took the chairlift to Piz Scalottas, a level 2’200m peak on the opposite side of the valley, and we had lunch inside the restaurant located on the top (a generous portion rösti and wild smoked salmon). Another intense experience! Had great time. Wonderful stay.
