We went for a Valentines break away at Swinside Lodge and enjoyed every moment there. It is set un a lovely quiet location away from the madding crowds of Windermere near Keswick.
The rooms are delightfull, very spacious with all the facilities of a five star establishment. The food for dinner compares with Jamie Oliver's Fifteen, if not even better with the ambience of the dining room. Mike and Kath attend to every detail and will even change items on the menu for you. As it was Valentines day there was a heart shaped box of chocloates on each table complete with a rose, that is the attention to detail that you find that makes a visit to Swinside special

Room Tip: All rooms seem superb

Even a power cut in Keswick just before breakfast didn't phase the owners and staff!

Had a wonderful stay- the reception, the meal, the organisation and the attention to detail made our aunt's birthday celebrations very special.

Thank you for making us all so welcome- hotel sophistication that felt like home.

Wonderful.

Taking over the whole hotel for a family birthday celebration is expensive but the quality and the care made it an unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: As there were 14 of us, we saw every room, so we know they're all great!

I would like to add that the party had a most enjoyable stay and that the review by the Curates Egg was only the view of one individual.

Many thanks for your most welcome thoughts on a previous review given by one of your party - it was always clear from the initial review that there was more than a hint of maliciousness in the comments.
However, having your endorsement say's everything of your stay, for Kath and i take enormous pleaure in trying to fulfill what we proclaim through the hotel website.
That said, we do still chuckle to ourselves that a cheeseboard for one person at a cost of £9 but shared between 12 people would be considered as anything other than 'laughably poor'- i'd have sent it back to the kitchen!!
In hindsight i won't throw myself into Lake Derwentwater over one review

Myself and my wonderful husband Ryan have just enjoyed a quiet 2 night stay at Swinside. WOW! Excellent in every which way. The food was unbelievable and much better than I'd expected, all the credit must go to Clive the chef!. Laurent was the perfect host too and very helpful. We will definately be coming back next year as it's at the top of our list for best places to stay. Only one criticism, 2 nights isn't enough!!!! Can't wait to go back. Thanks Mike & Kath, keep up the splendid work.

Sixth visit in two years and standards remain top notch every time, friendly, warm, helpful. Could not stay more than a few days at a time as the food is too good for the waist line in spite of marvellous local ( straight out the door) walking etc.

Room Tip: Pricing is realistic guide to which rooms to chose. Start with Lilac if available.

We have just had 3 nights at Swinside Lodge. The food was excellent, beyond our wildest dreams for the price. Kath, Mike and Laurent were attentive and did everything to make our stay perfect, even giving me a lesson on how to walk with poles. It was certainly not a problem that dinner was a set menu. It was beautifully served, varied and every course was delicious. The bedroom was comfy and the setting wonderful. We will go again, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: We stayed in Oak room which had both a bath and separate shower

We have just returned from a fantastic 2 nights at Swinside Lodge. This is a beautiful property only 2 miles outside Keswick in the most beautiful rolling hills. It's a small country house hotel owned and run by a small team of 4 people and it runs like clockwork without feeling regimented in any way. The lounges and dining room are beautifully and tastefully decorated whilst remaining cosy, The rooms are very comfortable indeed - ours had a lovely bay window at the front, with plasma TV with inbuilt DVD player and films on loan if you want them. The overriding reason to come here though is the food. The resident chef produces amazing, inspirational 4 course dinners every evening - a set menu - but this is no detriment at all because the dishes are so imaginative using high quality local produce and are stunningly presented - we loved this mystery tour. The chef even produces lovely canapes for everyone to enjoy in the lounges before dinner. The wine list is extensive with around 200 to choose from. I don't understand the few comments I have read here about the prices of the wines - certainly there is a full range including some expensive ones - but we chose a very modestly priced merlot at £18.50 and it was excellent. We met a selection of interesting, like minded people, so don't get put off by the fact that this is a small hotel with only 7 rooms. Breakfasts are amazing too with 4 or 5 hot dishes to choose from, all cooked to order. The team who own and run the hotel are extremely friendly but in an unobtrusive way. If you want advice on walks, they are full of ideas and gave us 3 fantastic walks to do, complete with an idiot proof map. We loved our stay here !

Room Tip: Lilac room at the front has a huge bay window with 2 chairs and you can look out at myriad of garden...
