“Ask for a mosquito net”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

During our round trip in southern Luzon, we decided to visit Cagbalete island. Our two-night stay at Pansacola Beach Resort was ok; we only suffered a bit from the mosquitos. We arranged with the owner that the staff would cook two dinners and one breakfast for us. It is also possible to buy your own food in Cagbalete uno; the small village nearby. We did a 6-hour hike along the beach and through the mangroves/forest and enjoyed the remoteness of the island. It was a unique experience! You can also get a full-body massage or rent a boat. The ferry from Mauban leaves in the morning and at 16:00, so keep this in mind when traveling there. It is very easy to walk through the village to the resort, so no need to take a boat (or guides) there.

i love pansacola beach in cagbalete island. its only 5 hours away from manila and is very affordable. also, there are not much tourists so the island can be really quiet and relaxing. you can buy whatever you need from the small stores nearby. i like the fact that it is not overly developed and it maintains its charm. no big hotels, no big restaurants. pure nature trip.

The sand is really soft and pure and there are marine life signifying the healthy ecosystem.

The island is best for family and friends vacation.

To get there, you can take the JAC Liner from kamias, EDSA to mauban, Quezon province. Then get off at the port. Pay P70 to the local tourism office andpay P50 for the boat going to the island.

Room Tip: rent a cottage. normally it can fit 8-10 people.

Having the largest beach shore in the island, Pansacola definitely has the best location.

Since they were fully booked the time we went there, we had to pitch a tent. The area was always clean and even though it was 'fully booked,' the place still wasn't crowded. Electricity is only available at night. Good thing, there's Globe signal. There were cooking stoves available for your using. You just have to bring your ingredients and equipment. There's also an option to get your food from the resort itself.

Overall, our stay was pleasant. Sun in the morning and in the afternoon wasn't that harsh and nights were windy.

By the way, if you want to stay in the kubos and not in tents, better book in advance. It's quite hard to contact the resort.

I was invited to Pansacola Beach Resort by my friends. They researched online and was able to book for an overnight stay.

We took an airconditioned bus from Alabang going to Lucena Grand Terminal, then another bus (non-aircon) going to Mauban, Quezon. The non-aircon bus is okay, since you get to feel the gentle breeze of fresh air coming from the nearby mountains covered by coconut trees. Upon getting off the bus, we just walked a few meters going to the ferry terminal, where the resort's private boat was docked.

Arriving in Cagbalete Island, where Pansacola Resort is located, will make you feel like you're in a private island, though the entire island is actually a community of several families.

We were welcomed by smiling servers in colorful drapes. Lunch includes crispy pata, fern salad, squid adobo, etc. The resort doesn't have kayak rentals or snorkels, but you can rent a boat to visit nearby islands. Or you can play volleyball along the beach, or just rest on their hammocks. They also offer massage services at a reasonable cost.

Their accommodation varies according to your budget, from tents, small open huts, to bigger huts with private toilet and bathroom. They also provide sheets on thin foam mattresses, and pillows with thin blankets. Electric fans are also available in rooms for the entire night, since they don't really use electricity during daytime. The resort uses generator sets to provide basic electricity for lights, fans, and for charging up your gadgets on wall sockets.

You can request a bonfire set-up for a minimal fee, and have your drinking sessions under the bright stars, with cool breeze coming from the sea.

They have a store where you can buy cold beer or softdrinks, and they also sell snacks. Common toilets and shower rooms are also scattered around the resort for the convenience of guests.

During low tide, you can walk along the sandbars and enjoy the sight of migratory birds searching for small shells to feed on. You can also explore other parts of the island and mingle with the locals. There's also a cemetery in the island located near the beach.

If you're looking for an affordable island getaway, then Pansacola Beach Resort is the place to go... :)

We went there over the Holy week and I was pleasantly surprised that the beach wasn't so crowded. The sand was quite nice and when the tide is low it becomes strange looking and interesting. The food served in Pansacola was plentiful and delicious! I loved our stay and will definitely come back. Kudos to Biyahe Lokal for arranging our trip :)
