“Great location, ok room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013

Had a great view of the waterfront from our room and despite busy nights we never heard anything. The breakfast spread was a nice surprise, was happy with the selection. Plus the dining area was spotless. Love the location of the hotel, watched people from our balcony and then joined in with a stroll along the waterfront. The Cretans were kind (as most are I've found) and it was nice not seeing throngs of tourists (the socks with sandals mobs).

The room was basic, the beds stiff, the bathroom cramped but what was irksome was the useless shower curtain that stuck to you like a stalker and did nothing to prevent the floors from getting soaked. The wifi was comically slow- I've had dial up faster but vacation isn't about getting online, especially somewhere small and relaxing as Sitia. The rooftop garden- well, it's closed and you can't even get on the roof, the locked door is surrounded by ghosts of chairs.

We lucked out with parking- got a spot right in front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Seaside, nice view to people watch from the balcony.

We turned up in Sitia after along drive from the west of Crete and chose Itanos as it was the first hotel we saw. We were helpfully processed by the reception, including guidance over parking, and the price of 49 Euros for the room (and breakfast) was good. We had no difficulties with the shower as we have become used to this style of Greek bathroom - some do not even have a shower curtain. Breakfast was OK with a wide variety of choice, except for those who want a full "fry up". The food was basic but good, the only complaint that we had was that there might have been some fresh fruit (rather than the tinned peaches), especially in a land where there is such a wide variety of good and high quality fruit. We did not use the taverna connected with the hotel but were offered discounted drinks there if we had. All in all we found this good value and loved wandering the town in the evening and early morning.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with the harbour/sea view. They may be a little noiser with cafes/tavernas and traf...

This reasonably priced family-run hotel is perfectly located, in front of Sitia harbor. The hotel flyer indicates that the place was renovated in 1998: it obviously could do with some more renovation now. The much touted roof garden was closed (and had clearly been closed for some time), the shower was equipped with a shower curtain of the kind which clings to the body but fails to prevent flooding of the whole bathroom, the (free) WiFi signal was weak and throughput was slow (much better to use the free WiFi provided by several of the tavernas around the harbor area), the breakfast buffet was indifferent. If you drive, note that the hotel has no private parking space and that the area's public parking spaces are sometimes crowded (mostly in the evenings). Since this is a part of town with a lot of night time animation, expect some noise in the evenings.
The hotel has one redeeming value: its taverna (across the street), which is - as tavernas go - undoubtedly above average. Try the Itanos salad as a welcome relief from the ubiquitous Greek/Cretan salads found everywhere.

Room Tip: The higher, the better

We booked a sea view room at Itanos hotel and were pleasantly surprised with the stunning views looking out over Sitia town. The room was well priced and offered basic acomodation in the heart of Sitia making it an excellent location to explore and go about our holiday. There is not really much to say other than we enjoyed a comfortable stay in a well equipped hotel. The only criticism would be the shower within the room was a bit messy with water managing to find its way all over the floor but it did not dampen our spirts - No Pun intended. I would really recommend staying in Itanos if you ever decide to venture out that way and recommend a drive to Xerokambos and also Vai for beach trips.

Room Tip: Sea view room worth the extra money

Only stayed here for 1 night as getting ferry next day. The rooms were reasonable and the wireless was a bonus. BUT the breakfast was shocking, stale breads, bad coffee and we were the first there for it.

Well placed hotel being on the main street directly across from the port and restaurants.

Still need to catch a cab to ferry port next morning though.

We arrived to Sitia and went to Itanos hotel as our first choice, based upon review on TA. How lucky we were. Itanos is situated in the midle of the city with a great view over the harbour. All tavernas within a couple of minutes walk. The owner gave great advice on the different archeological sites, about the beaches, the hikes, the drives and everything else we needed to know. Sitia is a great base for exploring eastern Crete with gorges, palm beach of Vai, mountain areas, beaches - everything.
After 5 days we continued to Agios Nikolaus. After that the Lassithi plataeu, and staying over i Malia was the plan. Seing Malia gave us a cultural schock. It was impossible for us to stay there, so we returned to Sitia again, and got the same warm welcoming, and stayed in Itanos hotel for another 4 days. We are happy that hotels like Itanos, and the couple Chrissy and George exists.

Room Tip: Get a room with harbour view.

Been there for a night for business. Cheap, very clean, staff extremely helpful, free wifi. Breakfast was ok, not anything special but ok.
Cons: no private parking but the owner helped me to find a spot near the hotel.
