Lovely hotel about 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Newark. The rooms are clean, spacious and well-furnished in a quaint quasi-old-fashioned manner; contemporary hotspot it's not! The attached restaurant looked good if a little on the pricey side, but then it had won Gourmet awards. The Internet access was OK, though kept cutting out.

We found the staff polite and efficient if a little standoffish at times, but overall they were fairly accommodating and helpful.

We stayed here (3 adults and 2 kids), for a Saturday night and really enjoyed it. A lovely old large red brick Victorian house. We had 3 rooms which were all beautifully newly decorated and had plenty of space. The bathrooms were all spotlessly clean and new as well.
We ate in the hotel restaurant, Cutlers. It was really good food with very friendly service and a wide amount of choice.
The breakfast was fabulous, all you could want with continental buffet (fresh croissants - delicious, bread, cereals, fruit juices, home made jams etc ) and lots of cooked options. The Full English breakfast was great, piping hot and all freshly cooked for you. Can recommend the eggs, bacon and black pudding! The smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were super too. Nothing was too much trouble, and they even offered us another jug of fresh coffee at the end of breakfast.
All the staff we met including the owner were very friendly and made us feel at home. There is a warm and welcoming bar as well as the restaurant. There were plenty of newspapers and new magazines available. There was free internet access.
The Grange will definitely be our first choice when we come to Newark again!

Newark is a handsome market town in East Midlands horse and hunting country, but it is very out-of-the-way too. Not a big tourist destination. Nevetheless if you are there, use The Grange. The rooms are warm, comfortable and well-appointed. The welcome is very friendly and helpful. There is free wifi. And the breakfasts are outstanding. Creamy porridge, excellently-sourced bacon, scrambled eggs served soft. Their breakfasts have won guide rosettes: they get one from me too. We had to stay in Newark after checking out and the hotel was happy for us to use their lounge and wifi after checkout. Nice touch.
