“Exceptional service, and a great stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2014

We luckily found Groomes after some extensive online research of the area, for somewhere to stay for our wedding night. After weighing up here and some other places, we're really glad that we chose here on such an important night. Whilst dealing with him, we found Pete to be extremely welcoming, and we were continuously impressed by his hospitality, and willingness to go the extra mile. Although there's several examples I could give, some of the ones that stand out, is that when we arrived, Pete stayed up to welcome us even though this was late. He spent time with us, making sure that everything was okay, and couldn't have been more helpful by asking if there was anything we needed.

What's more was that he had prepared two rooms for us, and actually allowed us to choose which we wanted - a touch we really appreciated and made the stay that bit more special.

We chose the Mezz room, which was lovely and were impressed by the look and specification of the room. A nice touch was that there were small LED lights set into the beams which looked great in the dark. The room was very large, and comfortable, and we were especially impressed by the bathroom, which was equally as large, and had a huge bath and a shower.

Outside, the building itself is very nice, and benefits from being set in a lovely location, surrounded by countryside, making it sufficiently idyllic.

In the morning, breakfast was a nice experience, as opposed to other places we have stayed in the past. Pete was helpful in establishing what we wanted to eat the night before, and we were both impressed with the quality of the food, as well as the other things on offer, e.g. yoghurt with fresh fruit, cereals, and coffee.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay, and our advice to anyone reading the other reviews would be to take them with a pinch of salt. We can only assume that as Groomes is a 5*, they have obviously attracted a lot of 'snobs' who aren't down to Earth enough to recognise great service when they see it! We would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: We chose the Mezz room, which we would recommend highly.

My family and I stayed at Groomes prior to my husband's sister's wedding. Pete and his family couldn't have been more welcoming. Both our room and this kids' room were lovely and the kids said the beds were the most comfortable they had ever slept in. We had a lovely meal on the eve of the wedding with the bride, family and close friends and Pete and his family pulled out all the stops to produce a love meal.

The grounds are beautiful and with a crisp frost the morning of wedding adding to the romance of the day. The bride and bridesmaids got ready at the hotel and the atmosphere and excitement built throughout the morning. To sum up, Groomes is a fabulous place to stay and the family did everything possible to make Freya and Mark's Wedding weekend a great memory. Thank you.

With out a doubt one of the best days of my life, our daughter married at nearby Rowledge then a short drive to Groomes.
Pete our host was magnificent as we're all the staff, from the moment we arrived they were extremely attentive, nobody wanted for anything.
A great setting for the big day, nearly all of our guests remarked that Groomes was perfect.
We made full use of the hotel, and the rooms were super as was breakfast.
We whole heartedly recommend this venue and the wonderful staff.

Amazing hotel - beautiful building set in the lovely Hampshire countryside, gorgeous rooms. The breakfast is extremely good and Pete and the staff are so friendly and helpful - will definitely stay again if I get the chance!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the four-poster bed and roll-top bath!

Stayed a few times and enjoyed the Groomes experience. It is more like going to stay at a friend's house than a hotel. Pete, the owner, is very keen to make sure everything is well, certainly the opposite to a corporate hotel.
Stayed in July and had a very good dinner sat on the terrace in the garden.
If you want to remain anonymous and do your own thing then this hotel isnt for you. If you dont mind the banter and friendly hospitality then go for it.
Rooms are big, well maintained and have everything you could possible want and more.
Breakfast also is very good and like other reviewers have mentioned, it does help if you specify in advance, even more so when the hotel isnt full.
The hotel is a mile off the main road, go slowly to avoid causing a problem to your car suspension

I have stayed at Groomes several times as my company uses it quite a bit. It is a unique place as it has very large well equipped and comfortable rooms, located in a semi-rural setting with pheasants and badgers in the gardens, surrounded by quiet lovely countryside.
Meals are in a familylike setting where the guests enjoy truly wonderful homecooked food and superb service. My longest stay was a couple of weeks so I know the place well, and my wife has been there too and agrees with me! The owners know the area well and are very helpful with any request. And the prices are quite below what you would expect for so much.

Recently stayed at the Groomes for a friend's wedding nearby. It was a superb experience. The rooms were lovely and Pete, the owner was very hospitable and really took care of us (even if we hadn't been the easiest of guests). The dinner the night before the wedding was very good and we were all really taken care of with Pete still happy to take care of us at 2am by pouring drinks and making sure we were all okay. The day of the wedding I had to get up earlier than everyone else and Pete was quite happy to have my breakfast done earlier. All I would say is that because the place is up on a hill that it can get a bit cold if the weather is bad. However stunning views and would definitely go back there again. PS, when I drove my car into the ditch on a nearby road, Pete was more than happy to come and tow me out so he is quite happy to go above and beyond the call of duty.
