“Excellent top end B & B”
Reviewed 25 July 2011

Hononton Cottage is an excellent top end B&B, offering very good accomodation with en suite facilities in 2 out of 3 rooms and very accessible bathroom facilities in the remaining room. The breakfasts are excellent and the fruit salad quite the best I've ever eaten.
The setting is idyllic, picturesque, with stunning views over the Kentish weald; and there is a good sized garden to relax in. The location is very quiet.
Maggie and Simon are good and attentive hosts.
Not cheap but thoroughly deserving its 5 star rating. One useful comment - not easy to find or to navigate the local lanes and environs - I strongly recommend a car or bicycle for the fit and keen; and a sat-nav system is very helpful.

Hononton Cottage is set in the beautiful Kent countryside, down a quiet lane set adjacent to an old apple farm. We stayed 'en famille' six of us plus our first grand child Florence (3 weeks old). The accomodation was spotless - but homely, fantastic showers, comfy beds. Breakfast was to die for everything and English man or woman could want! To cap it all Florence had her first complete nights sleep!! We would go back tomorrow if we could!

Room Tip: rooms were clean homely and comfortable

My colleague and i stayed at Hononton Cottage for 3 nights as we were working in nearby Yalding; It is a beautiful house literally in the middle of the countryside, beautiful views and very very peaceful. Maggie and Simon are very friendly hosts and warming and made us feel at home.

The rooms were immaculately clean, spacious and well equipped. So much attention to detail, lots of toiletries in the bathroom, an excellent shower and the bed was very comfortable.

The breakfast was superb in every way, lovely home-cooked locally sourced food the poached eggs were fab! Will definitely be returning in the future and i highly recommend anyone to stay here, one of the nicest B&B's i've stayed at.

We enjoyed a very pleasant one night stay here over the late May bank holiday weekend. Simon and Maggie clearly take a lot of pride in their B&B - they pay huge attention to detail - a range of drinks in the room, bathroom well stocked with toiletries etc. They were also very helpful telling us where to eat locally. Lovely location on edge of village/town, handy for Sissinghurst (where we spent the following day). We would happily stay here again and recommend it to others.

Simon and Maggie, thank you for the luxurious stay as well as your generous and friendly hosting.

We found Honoton Cottage to be an extremely comfortable B&B, more like a 5 star hotel but with real personal care and attention to all of our needs. Our family was attending the wedding of our eldest son and we booked the entire cottage for 3 days. Simon and Maggie even added extra sleeping bedding when we increased numbers originally booked.

The rooms were very clean and well appointed and included all possible necessities including quality soaps, shampoos, skin care products and mineral water, tea, coffee etc in each room.

The beds were luxurious and all facilities, en suites etc modern and high quality.

Being surrounded by orchards the views from all rooms were wonderful and this matched the lovely quiet area that the cottage is set in.

The breakfast provided can only be described as amazing and each family member went away from the table each morning as 'full as a goog'.

We must also comment on the friendliness and generosity of our hosts, Simon and Maggie, who were very helpful and even provided a bottle of French Champagne to celebrate the family wedding.

In summary, a beautiful place with wonderful hosts. We will certainly stay again during our next trip to Kent.

This B and B is a real gem. We stayed three nights with Maggie and Simon, and it was like staying with friends. We would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone. Hononton cottage is a 500 year old house which has been beautifully decorated and renovated by Simon and Maggie. It is surrounded by apple orchards and is at the end of a quiet lane not far from Royal Tunbridge Wells.

Before we arrived, Simon was most helpful with our email queries regarding the state of the winter weather and we felt we knew him well before we arrived. On arrival Simon and Maggie made us a welcoming cup of tea and were so helpful with any questions we had about the surrounding area and things to do. Simon frequently looked things up for us to make sure we didn't waste time which was great.

Our children stayed downstairs in a lovely spacious room with a generous ensuite bathroom with bath, which like the rest of the house was beautifully decorated, and included such generous touches as a wide variety of different soaps and so on. The room was stocked with a selection of teas and coffees, including herbal teas, water, lemonade, biscuits and so on. The children were made to feel more than welcome and bonded straight away with Maggie and Simon too. Our room was upstairs with a double bed which was very comfortable and the room again was decorated with much care and attention to detail, with again a large modern bathroom ensuite.

The breakfast was just superb each morning, there is a wide selection of cereals, a hot breakfast offered, tea, juices, coffee, toast - as much as you can possibly eat, and we felt very spoilt!

As for the surrounding area of Kent -- we picked this cottage for its reviews and also its wonderful location. We should have stayed longer, and plan to return as there are so many things to do -- major sights -- which make fantastic day trips. We were there in the winter, so went with what was open, which was more than enough to occupy us for three days. We visited Hever Castle (Anne Boleyn's childhood home) , Leeds Castle, Canterbury, and also went to a pantomime in Royal Tunbridge Wells, a town in which we also spent some time admiring. Royal Tundbridge Wells, so nearby, is well worth exploring and has an excellent range of restaurants and shops, and is famous for its beautiful Pantiles. We hoped to get to Rye, Battle, Dover Castle and there is Vita Sackville West's Sissinghurst Castle and gardens nearby too, and there is so much more to see in the summer months on top of that.

All in all, we had a wonderful time. We definitely hope to go back and see the rest of this stunning county, but most of all, we would return just to see Maggie and Simon anyway. In a six week trip around Europe, this was one of the best places we stayed. If you are not sure, just go ahead and book. It is lovely.

This 2 day stay was booked by my partner as a surprise for my birthday. And, what a surprise it was. The welcome was as if we were old friends. The setting is fabulous, and the room was a total pleasure. Whilst the cottage is 400 years old and the rooms maintain their period charm, every conceivable convenience was provided for us, including wi-fi access.
Breakfasts were just perfect with just as much attention to detail. We wanted for nothing during our stay.
Simon and Maggie are to be congratulated. The level of service and attention that is found here is second to none, and fantastic value for money too.
We will definitely plan to stay there again.
