Owner description: Tucked away up a Wealden lane in Brenchley, Kent, lies an enchanting garden where planting and art blend to create a magical surprise around every corner. Marle Place is a peaceful, privately owned garden with ten acres of formal planting and many more acres of woodland. The delightful gardens are a combination of hedged rooms and tree lined avenues. Herbaceous, annual plants and unusual shrubs give scent and colour throughout. The yew hedged kitchen garden includes a wide selection of vegetables, rose beds and an orchid house. The gardens consistently win awards for management for wildlife, while the 'potting shed shop' offers collectables, old and new and the plant stand offers a large selection of perennials. Come and try our wonderful selection of delicious dishes and scrumptious homemade cakes and teas in the Cart-bay Café. In the gallery there are exhibitions by the resident and local artists. Artwork is also on show in the grounds. We are within 20 minutes of Scotney and Sissinghurst Castle and within easy reach of Hever Castle and Penshurst Place.

Wow - over ten acres of formal and informal privately owned gardens tucked away in the middle of Kent (the Garden of England). Reasonably priced at £6 for adults, £5.50 for senior citizens, £2 for children. It is free for wheelchair users and children under 4 years.
As well as plants, there is also the delights of the Victorian Gazebo, Italian walled garden and Edwardian rockery alongside more unusual features such as a mosaic terrace and modern sculptures.
There is also a resident artist's studio and an exhibition to see in the gallery. The only reason I was aware of the wonders of Marle Place Gardens and Gallery was through connection with my son's school as they currently have an exhibition of student art work on display and for sale, including one of my sons pieces.

Visited yesterday and have just read the most recent review which I could have 'cut and pasted' as our experience was very similar. We arrived before the opening time (did not do our research) but were greeted warmly and let in early which was very much appreciated. A real treat for the senses, I did not know that Lime trees had a scent, buzzing with honey bees, the honey and other goodies sold in the shop. Difficult to name favourite parts, more the feeling that you could pretend that the croquet lawn, swimming pool, secret gardens and lifestyle belonged to the visitor even for a short time. Lots of seating throughout the gardens. Lovely teashop with a delicious selection of cakes and coffee served in individual cafetieres.
Would not normally comment on staff when visiting museums/gardens but at Marle we were made to feel very welcome from beginning to end.

This is a hidden gem.
If you favour a quiet and tasteful day in the Weald of Kent, look no further.Everything about Marle Place is done so as to compliment it's surroundings. The gardens are a joy,set out in a tradional English country garden style and why not? because that is exactly what it is.The flower beds were a riot of colour and a delight on sight and smell.(Look out for Lime tree near the front of the house, the perfume has to be sampled to fully appreciated)
There are many little corners and hideaways in the grounds each with a floral charm of its own.
The woodland walk is one not to miss not only for its flowers but also its wildlife.
Above all we appreciated the peace and quiet.Visitors should allow the full day to draw on the delights on offer.
The gallery is an open house with visitors made to feel at home.
The whole experience uses the house(which is not open to the public)as a backdrop to day.
There is a small gift shop and plant table.
A visit to the small but quite charming tea rooms is a must.
Dogs are not allowed.
.(Credit cards are not taken.)
The staff with whom we came into contact were both helpful and friendly,in short a lovely day in the country. We shall be back.

Visited here yesterday with a small coach party. We were made most welcome by the owner who gave a brief history of the place. After a welcome cuppa we were allowed to wander wherever we liked except in the house. There were plenty of places to sit and admire the views or the flowers. There were ducklings on the lake which liked to come and see you especially if they thought you had food. We finished our visit with tea and cake. These gardens are well worth a visit.
