The Jolly Sailor is a great find and can easily be missed when visiting Haybridge Basin (as there is a pub near the lock). The pub is welcoming and food very good, and especially the breakfasts

So we know that a group of eight cyclists can be a bit daunting when we descend on a pub for lunch, but to be told by the disinterested teenager that we couldn't leave our bikes in the back of the empty outside seating area because "I'm selling ice-creams from there" and we'd "have to leave them (unchained) in the gravel car-park" wasn't the warmest of welcomes - especially as the place was deserted!

Still, we got settled and ordered food - all reasonably priced and decent sized portions. I've never had a chicken Caesar salad before with red onion in but no parmesan, but the slices of chicken breast were good and the dressing nice. Shame they didn't wash the lettuce first as scraping soil on to your plate doesn't improve the appetite. Most of the group enjoyed their food, the fish platter and pasta dishes being nice although the fish and chips was a bit disappointing too.

Oh and the guy never did have any customers for his ice-cream anyway!

Thankyou for taking the time to comment about your visit to the Jolly Sailor. With regards to the Chicken Caesar Salad, it should not have had red onion on it and that was a mistake by our kitchen staff. However, our Caesar Salad dressing is made using Parmesan cheese, it is one of the base ingredients. And in addition to that we do add a few extra flakes of parmesan. Our staff member who advised you that you could not park your 8 bikes against our icecream and shop entrance was only following direction from management as we do like to keep the dining area of the barn clear and the shop accessible. We have many cyclists visiting due to our location and we have taken your comments regarding parking of bikes on board.

Visited on a lovely summers eve. Pub was, to be fair as clean as always (we have drunk there in the past). ordered food which was, when it arrived not realy good enough. my sons burger was not cooked in the middle, my wifes jacket pot was cold and hard in the middle. She returned it but after ten minutes we had finished so we cancelled her order. The woman was put out as she had made another one, what she needs to do is get the first order right!!!! At no point did she apologise. Wont be going back there again. Can i suggest a visit to the Olive garden, Tony Romas, Perkins or indeed, any US resturant, where excellent service and food is the norm.

I was dissappointed to read your review about the dining experience you had with us. With regards to the jacket potato it should not have been cold or hard and for that we apologised and offered a replacement which you accepted. A fresh jacket meal takes at least 10 minutes to prepare and it was ready at the same time you came in to cancel your order. We refunded your money as you were not satisifed with our service. As to the burger, which is 100% steak mince made in house, they are always probed before leaving the kitchen and it had reached the optimum temperature of 75 degrees. We are sorry your experience was dissapointing.
