A lovely night spent at Slaley with my husband, daughter and sister.
From the moment we arrived the experience was special. A lovely chap called Neville swooped bags inside, smiled, greeted, guided and was just excellent. Reception staff were friendly and efficient and the room, although the most basic of the rooms available, was clean and very adequate.
Our daughter LOVED the swimming pool area, it is a bit tired in places but exceptional non the less. The location of the hotel is spectacular, the grounds immaculate and everything really is rather marvellous. However we were REALLY disappointed with the very mediocre food at Hadrian's Brasserie.
Perhaps I should qualify by saying that there might be an issue with speed of getting food from the kitchen to the table, there might be but...............we ordered the Butcher's Block at £56 for two, it sounded delicious so we thought we might feast. Unfortunately it arrived little more than luke warm, having been beautifully and rather theatrically swooped through the restaurant on the waiter's shoulder. It all looked good and at first our hunger and the dramatic entrance made us think that we had really chosen well, however the whole selection of meats, steaks, chops, sausages arrived possibly JUST warmer than body temperature, on cold plates and accompanied by THE worst undercooked, floury, doughy and soggy onion rings we have ever had the misfortune to encounter. This was very disappointing and a bit embarrassing after the wonderful flourish of delivery to have to send it back, the food was stone cold.
My daughter's children's Sheperd's Pie had arrived in an equally tepid state with the mashed potato just smoothed on top with no further browning to crisp up the edges and I thought initially that that was a really good chef (perhaps one who had forgotten to crisp the top) who was thinking about not too hot food for little ones. Unfortunately I think that's not the case. As I say perhaps there's an issue with service, getting food out of the kitchen and to the table in a timely manner................but that doesn't explain or forgive packet onion rings, that were truly yucky.
On a really positive plus side, the restaurant manager sorted things out promptly and breakfast in the same restaurant was delightful...............who know just maybe a hiccup?
On another supremely positive note, my daughter went missing. She's 9 and the hotel is large and rambling. After ten minutes of failed and frantic searching I approached Reception to ask for help. The lady there was amazing in her response, as were the two members of staff who instantly appeared to promote our search effort. My daughter was found fairly swiftly but I cannot praise highly enough the diligence and warmth and kindness of the staff who turned a potentially very stressful situation into a calm one, quickly.

I stayed here for a conference and found the trek from the car park to the hotel a bit of a nightmare straight away. The rooms were clean but nothing special and could do with updating. I must say though all the staff were very friendly and helpful and always smiling which was great. The food was good overall although the toast and tea took at least 20 minutes to arrive when ordered at breakfast. Not sure I'd visit again in a hurry.

This year we had our annual Golf trip at Slaley Hall and had a great time. 2 very good golf course's - Hunting - great front 9, some great holes and well thought out, back 9 wasn't as good, lacked something but still very enjoyable. Priestman - we found to be a better complete course. Really enjoyed playing both course's but the Priestman edged it for us.

The hotel is great, like someone else said very dark down the corridors and a little confusing in finding your room but overall very nice. Check in was simple, everything was sorted for our party and planned as requested. The food for most was very good, drinks reasonably priced for a hotel but moving to the bar when the Claret Jug closed was strange with the 3/4 pints and maybe not as good bar staff too. Breakfast was very nice, loads to choose from, great service and just what our party needed. Some of the guys had food after golf too which were really nice (massive burgers and chips).

All in all a very good hotel with top quality golf course's and good food.

We spent a weekend at Slaley Hall with friends . The girls went to the spa and the guys played golf The hotel it's set in beautiful grounds with lovely walks and views of the surrounding country side. I think this hotel has great potential to be an outstanding venue , it has every thing it needs , great location , great grounds, a spa , 2 top class golf courses , great staff. BUT there is two many " but's" food and drink very over priced ( only serve beer in 3/4 of a pint but charge for a pint). General decor needing revamped , lighting in the corridor's very dark and the high cost of a room. Overall I enjoyed my time at Slaley , with a little effort it could be a great place to visit

A beautiful hotel in a beautiful location. The hotel is both elegant and sophisticated. The decor is in keeping with the building and location. Rooms are fantastic. Restaurants brilliant, with an excellent choice on both menus. If you fancy something abit simpler, the sports bar has an excellent pub grub menu but with all the quality and standard of the restaurants. And the cocktails in this bar are fab.
The spa facilities are out of the world and the staff qualified to a very high standard. We went for 2 nights and literally spent the whole 1st day by the pool, reading, swimming, sauna, whirl pool, steam room, massage rooms. Pure bliss.

Room Tip: Upgrades available from standard double to superior. We have been to this hotel on many occasions and have stayed in both. it is really not necessary to upgrade. The standard and quality you receive in a standard room is amazing. The little extra's for the upgrade are more tv channels, a coffee maker and you're own bathrobes in the room. Which you get in the spa area anyway.
