Coming from chaotic Casablanca, Dar KamalChaoui was the perfect place for a cosy weekend close to nature. No traffic. No noise. No 7th century mauresque mosaiques. But a warm house with a lot of charm. The host family, Kamal, Beatrice and Adam (their son) are extremely hospitable and will look after you almost like if you were an extension of their own family. Special thanks to Naima the chef of the most amazing Harira i've ever had. I am still craving it. I had an amazing time in Bhalil. I didnt even went to Fes in the end, not that it's too far but I was too happy to chill in the real rural Morocco.

Kamal's place outside of Fes is the perfect option for those wanting to stay in a quaint village where daily Moroccan life is vastly untouched by tourism, a rarity in Morocco. Kamal's guesthouse is beautiful and clean, and Kamal's wife cooks a mean tajine and one of the best cakes I've had in my life. Kamal was a great host and constantly attended to our comfort while at the guesthouse, something you don't tend to get at larger hotels. In fact, due to a slight unforeseen malfunction with a new heater Kamal had recently purchased, he happily upgraded us from one room to two at no extra cost. If you are looking for beautiful accommodations, friendly hosts, and a stay in a nice, sleepy Morrocan village near hectic Fes, Kamal's is the place for you.

Kamal and his family were extremely generous and accomodating. The water was warm, the rooms were cozy, the food delicious, the conversation good, and the rooftop had an absolutely wonderful view of Fez and the country surrounding it. I would recommend Kamal's to anyone traveling in the area!

Spending two nights with Kamal and his family provided us with an experience unlike that at other guest houses, in a good way. Firstly, it is located at the heart of a pastoral mountainside village, providing an "off the beaten track" feel to the stay there. Secondly, the set-up provided opportunities to closely interact with the hosting family and with other guests during meals, with everyone sitting around the same table and sharing thoughts and stories. This allowed me and my wife to hear many insightful observations about Morocco and its people, to hear interesting points of view on various subjects, and to get to know people whom we would otherwise never get to meet. We also got great tips about what to see in Fez, which enriched our visit there.
The room and the food were good, but it was the human company that left us with great memories of the place.

I had the pleasure of spending several days with Kamal and Beatrice last July and it was terrific. Dar KamalChaoui is located a little ways outside Fes in a small town called Bhalil where you can really relax and absorb a more genuine local Morocco. The rooms are spectacularly appointed and the food is wonderful, especially Beatrice's cucumber salad that I couldn't get enough of. Kamal and Beatrice were wonderful hosts and I enjoyed getting to know them through our frequent chats. I feel that Dar KamalChaoui is a must for any trip to Imperial Cities area as wonderful counterpoint to the cities. I would most definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Kamal gave me a thorough tour and all the rooms are beautiful.

I had a good fortune to stay at Dar Kamal Chaoui guest house for just one night on my way to Marrakech after staying in Fez Medina. It was recommended to me by Helen Ranger who arranged my two-week trip to Morocco. Otherwise I would never found this GEM!. It was just too short of a stay but really fantastic particularly after staying in a fancy Riad in Fez. The contrast of the service here and the impersonal one in Fez was quite stark!. What ever you wish to do , Kamal can provide and more. He really provide the service more than any one could expect from a host of a guest house. The house itself is very charming , blending Moroccan tradition and French Savoir-Fair. I guess the later is the influence of his wife, Beatrice. The food which he provided us both lunch and dinner were superb, really. We just mentioned casually that it would be nice to have a BBQ for lunch on his roof top terrance overlook magnificent town of Bhalil, went Kamal and came back with all sort of meat for our BBQ lunch. I would recommend to any one who have their own car to stay here while visiting Fez and surrounding area. Kamal makes you feel like a family and I suspect that he treats all his guest like King and Queen. For me it was just too short of a stay!

It was wonderful to see how enthusiastic Kamal is about Bhalil, but more so about the people living there. He gave me and my dad an excellent tour of Bhalil and Sefrou which was a welcome break from the ordinary tourist tours you are bound to do in other cities in Morocco. He really puts a tremendous amount of passion and energy into showing you around and educating you about life in and around his town.

The guest house is perfect with a beautiful view over the valley and the food is fantastic.

I highly recommend a few days at Kamal Chaoui after the buzz of Fes. It is a gorgeous town with friendly people and Kamal as the perfect host and guide.
