“Solid and honest”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 via mobile

The first thing to say is this is not a fancy 5 star B&B and does lacks some of the luxuries. But the result is a non pretentious, solid and honest B&B with caring hosts who are more than willing to please.
The room is private and quiet, and surrounded by a lovely garden with places to sit and relax. The fish in the corner are worth a visit too.
If staying here you need a car, and although the streets are safe, they are poorly lit. I found walking back from the shops late at night a little confronting.
Overall a great place for a couple or business exec who needs some space. It deserves 5 stars and we will be back!

It is indeed a compliment to be regarded an unpretentious, solid and honest B&B. While our recent Excellence Awards 2013, 2014 (based on customer reviews) may give the impression that we have a 5 star boutique B&B located in a stately building full of luxurious appointments, the truth of the matter is that our B&B is just a very comfortable, traditional one located in a Canberra suburb. That said, Yarralumla is an exclusive suburb near Lake Burley Griffin, parks, CBD, embassies and tourist attractions. The street lighting is as good as can be considering the mature, stately trees. If guests are looking for large flat screen TVs, Foxtel, IPod docks, Nespresso Machines and designer toiletries they will be disappointed. If, however, they enjoy smelling fresh flowers, having breakfast in their private dining room or under the old oak tree, watching the news on an under-stated TV, listening to RN radio on comfy lounge chairs, drinking freshly ground plunger coffee, nibbling on Lindt chocolates and sipping the occasional port, Practically Lakeside is worth a try.

Practically Lakeside is beautiful. We have just enjoyed three relaxing nights at this lovely B&B. Every detail in the bedroom has been thoughtfully chosen, to make the room luxurious. The bedroom / loungeroom is large and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom is also large and generously equipped . A delicious breakfast is served in an adjoining room which also serves as a private sitting room for guests. The heating was perfect to counteract the bitter cold outside. The location is idyllic with parkland and the lake minutes away by foot. Dinner can be bought at a variety of restaurants or an IGA a short drive away. All of Canberra's many attractions are close to this B&B so that despite its tranquility, it is central to any destination a tourist would wish to visit.

We are forever amazed at the number of appreciative guests who stay @ Practically Lakeside B&B. Our location is extremely quiet yet near the Parliamentary triangle and attractions. We thank you for your lovely comments about our B&B and service. We also thank you for your appreciation of the superb National Galleries and museums here in our capital. We are very proud of the high quality exhibitions on offer and are pleased that so many people visit Canberra for the express purpose of adding to their considerable wealth of knowledge. We really enjoyed meeting you both and hope that you will return to Canberra to take in the other wonderful outdoor attractions such as the National Arboretum and Botanic Gardens better visited in the warmer months.

I spent 3 nights enjoying the comfort and facilities of Luba & Chris's wonderful B & B. Located in a very quiet, tree-lined street and close to everything you need to make you National Capital stay just about perfect. A very large bedroom/sitting room with all the comforts of home and a huge and well equipped en-suite which will satisfy the most fastidious guest. The nearby Yarralumla Shops have a large licensed supermarket and a number of good eateries, including the well patronised Turkish pide house and an up-market pizza restaurant. Overall a wonderful and relaxing stay which puts Practically Lakeside up there among the best I have ever stayed at.

Room Tip: Sit on the balcony and enjoy the visiting birds.

Thank you for your lovely review of Practically Lakeside B&B and nearby eateries. You were very lucky to experience marvellous weather and to see Canberra at its autumnal best. The trees and birds in Yarralumla are spectacular and many guests, like yourself, spend much time on the deck just taking in the serenity and decipering the different bird calls. We really enjoyed meeting you and were interested to hear about your work and hobbies. We hope that you will return to Practically Lakeside in the spring which is another gorgeous season.

We enjoyed the quiet calm and semi detached accomadation we would recommend it to anyone, nothing to find fault with because it was all as it should be ,

the one room available was large warm sunny and very quiet with on road parking outside in a very quiet road, with in walking distance from the Burly Griffin lake and so much more faultless.

Room Tip: one large ensuite room with huge shower and copious towels shower gel and shampoo all you could ever...
