I stayed at this hotel for one night whilst on a Travelsphere package holiday. The hotel is very well presented and the rooms are large with a good old manor house feel about them, panelled wood walls and furniture. I understand from other people that the food in the restaurant was good but did not try myself as I made other arrangements. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms have a big bed, safe, coffee/tea making facilities and a fridge.the grounds are very well maintained and give you the good feel factor.Shopping centre is about a 25mins walk, but there's not much about to do or see. Canberra is albeit the capital of Australia very bland. Felt really comfortable in this hotel, would have been even better if it was placed somewhere else than Canberra

Room Tip: Sorry there is no swimming pool , but I could not change the rating or delete

Wife and I stayed for 5 nights during our first visit to Canberra. 10 min walk to the war memorial and Canberra central shopping center. Grand old hotel with lots of features. We booked the deluxe loft room which was clean and romantic. Perhaps a toilet downstairs would have been convenient. For the price we were a little disappointed that WiFi wasn't included and was an extra. Probably would try somewhere different if we visited Canberra again

My family stayed in A king loft style apartment. Everything you could want was there. Extremely helpful friendly staff. Sleeps 4, king bed upstairs double sofa downstairs tv up and huge tv down. Free breakfast for children. We had the Questacon package which included admission to Questacon. Free parking. We were able to drive to other museums and sights easily And get back to hotel with no problems. Beautiful peaceful gardens to sit read and relax on outdoor chairs or take it in from our own balcony. Buffet style breakfast with newspaper in the restaurant all you could ask for. Highly recommend for a family. Cosy old fireplaces in common lounges with comfy over stuffed arm chairs for great for winter relaxing. We did not have the fires as it was not cold, but in winter a nice brandy by the fire. h

Close to the city. Loft room was really bit and plenty of space for out littler one to run around in. Bathroom was modern and a nice size. Breakfast was cheap ($15 prepay at the hotel) but great value for the money. I will be staying again next time i am in Canberra.

Room Tip: Get a loft suite.

Good value for money with very engaging friendly staff. Bathrooms are a little on the small side, very comfortable beds and clean rooms. The charge for Internet connection is very over priced and VERY LAST CENTURY, strange that in the nations Capitol Internet is still treated as something that has just arrived, guess they charged for electric and hot water at some stage too.

Good breakfast, a very pleasant stay, good parking except on Saturdayg when the brides and grooms make their appearance. Management obliviously are doing a good job, otherwise their staff would not be as nice, helpful and look like they are at least enjoying their jobs.

Pleasant short walk into town where there are several good restaurants, shopping mall etc.

Room Tip: A room that looks into the courtyard ...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present. Most of Canberra's National Attractions are within 10 minutes' drive from the hotel and the CBD is and easy 10 minute walk away and offers a wide range of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as shops and a Dendy Movie Cinema.
