I recently stayed at the Mercure canberra again after sometime since my last stay and must say it was a great experience.

I stayed with my wife , who has a better eye for detail than me and had so many good things to say that i thought i would put down all her comments.

- room was great looking on to the beautiful garden, great size room and clean and well maintained.

- food was outstanding, the best room service dinner she has had ever! and they tray was taken away before the morning!! ( my pet hate)

- service was outstanding, i am a club member of Accor and never have my card, last hotel i stayed at it was a huge problem with check in with me having to ring my wife to get number, at Mercure Canberra they just looked it up for me , i didnt even get asked for it.

- wine list is fantastic, most hotels seem to put ordinary wine on the wine lost at extrodinary prices, the wine were good and good prices, loved the Snake and Herring Dirty Boots Cab Sauv!

- breakfast was good and fresh, i am not a big buffet fan as most places the food sits for a while, here they seems to keep it moving and fresh, and loved the Chipoltas.

in all, this was a great stay and will be back .

thanks to the great team at Mercure canberra.

Room Tip: get a room facing on to the garden, very peaceful and relaxing.

We stayed at the Mercure for one night. It was a lovely hotel reasonably priced. The staff very friendly. It was difficult to find restaurants and exits from our room. It was like walking through a rabbit warren. The restaurant was understaffed and difficult to get people to restock the breakfast bar with food and juice. Where we were sitting, anyone walking past caused the floor moved up and down as if it was spring loaded. I enjoyed the trampoline effect. There was a family in the room above us and noise was unbearable. They were running up and down and yelling to 9 at night then again from 6 in the morning. As it is a dog friendly hotel which I don't have a problem with, we were awoken to dogs barking outside our room.
Loved the hotel but our time there was marred by all the other things that happened.

We had a very pleasant stay over the Easter break. The Mecure is very nicely located in Ainsley, walking distance to War Memorial and Civic. It's a charming part of Canberran history, with lovely courtyards and nooks for a quiet drink. Room was pleasant, but a little small for the 3 of us. The breakfast was really good. Overall good value. My only real complaint was the restaurant where we ate on the first night. Although the waiting staff were lovely, they were not well organised. Diners waited 30 minutes for their order to be taken. We gave up waiting for our desert order to be taken, went back to the room and ordered and it arrived promptly. The food was okay. Anyway, overall we enjoyed our stay but we wouldn't go back to the restaurant.

The Mercure was perfect for our stay in Canberra. We loved the style of the hotel having been built in the 40's/50's era. Our room was small, but comfortable, clean and quite modern with a recently refurbished bathroom. There is a great bistro/bar area with excellent meals. We would happily stay there again, only word of warning, if you are not good with stairs ask for a downstairs room.

Room Tip: Ask for a downstairs room if you are not fussed on carrying your luggage up two flights of stairs.

Welcome to Mercure Canberra, a part of Canberra's history Originally known as the Hotel Ainslie, Mercure Canberra was built to provide accommodation for public servants relocating to Canberra to support the transfer of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is one of eight remaining government built hotels or hostels from Canberra's first stage of development in the 1920s and is listed in the Register of the National Estate. Mercure Canberra is historically significant for its important role in the development of North Canberra and the forging of its community identity. While maintaining many original features, the hotel embraces the need for 21st century comforts to ensure you feel welcome and have an enjoyable stay. Our 129 guest rooms are well appointed and have been decorated in keeping with the heritage style of the building. Our Standard rooms are located in the Heritage wing, with the layout and style of room not changing from the hotels' original days. For those looking for a more modern layout, you may wish to select one of our Superior or Deluxe Loft rooms in the newer part of the building. Our guests have the option to dine at our onsite Courtyard Restaurant serving modern Australian cuisine in the evening and a choice of Continental or Buffet breakfast in the morning. Those looking for a more casual dining experience can enjoy Bistro style meals from our Olims Bar & Bistro, a favourite spot for hotel guests and locals to mingle, serving Craft Beers & Cider from our very own Lovedale Brewery Our location is ideal. 600m from the Australian War Memorial commemorating those who serve our country, both past and present.
