We (2 adults, 2 kids) always stay at the Mercure (formerly Olims) on our trips from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains. We love the fact that they have a couple of larger suites, easy free outdoor parking, a bottle shop, pub and bistro for easy evening meals (esp. as Canberra's eateries are so concentrated in just a few areas and not many in the city centre). The staff are always very attentive and the breakfast buffet serves our needs - the kids love it. And it's just a short walk from the city shopping precinct if you wish to have breakfast there. Only negative is the absence of a swimming pool for the kids. Short drive to all the Canberra landmarks.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years and it continues to offer the same great standard. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The restaurant offers great tasting food. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff at reception and the location is perfect.

As soon as you enter reception you see a roaring fire and cosy seating. This leads out to a well kept courtyard. Check-in was quick and smooth. Staff at the desk and throughout the hotel were consistently friendly.

The room was a very good size with a balcony looking out onto the courtyard. Heating worked well (very important in Canberran winters!) and the shower was hot and powerful. The bed was two singles pushed together which was a little disappointing.

It's a beautiful, heritage building (there's a nice coffee table book about its history in the room), which means noise can be an issue.

The breakfast buffet was delicious and great value. I would definitely stay here again!

We are regular visitors to Canberra and on our recent trip from Brisbane to Cooma NSW we stayed here one night. As we were flying into Canberra in the evening and planned to do a couple things in Canberra the next morning, we needed a comfortable place to stay, preferably near the War Memorial. This is our first time staying in this hotel and we were extremely pleased. We are ACCOR members and were offered a sale deal a couple months ago which we booked. On our arrival we had been given an upgrade to a Deluxe Loft room which was lovely. The room was very comfortable, warm and inviting with all the facilities we could need, including a kitchenette and dining room table, comfortable sofa and two TVs as well as a very comfortable bed and bathroom in the upstairs loft. There was a nice balcony with a garden view, but on a chilly Canberra evening in June, we did not use that. I was especially pleased with Reception staff and their helpfulness. We were fortunate to find a parking spot at the front of the hotel, so we were able to take our bags in easily.

As we arrived at 7pm, we went straight to dinner in the Courtyard Restaurant. The meal was delicious, service friendly and great value as we were able to use our dining discount. Following dinner, the fireplace with cosy armchairs was inviting. We loved the historic feel of the hotel. We were equally impressed with breakfast the next morning. All in all, thank you for a wonderful stay - we are planning to return.

I was upgraded to a king room.

Courteous staff at the desk and checkin was smooth.
Plenty of tourist info was available.

Great size room.
Comfortable bed and pillows.
I found the room and bathroom to be very clean.
There was a nice courtyard.

My visit was mid winter, and it took quite a while for the aircon to wRm the room.

The restaurant was quite nice, as was the adjoining bistro and bar.
Breakfast on the second day was a bit hectic, and they couldn't keep up with the hot food.

A bit noisy from adjacent room and corridor.

There is a book regarding the hotel and surrounding areas which I found quite interesting.
