“Perfect work trip”

Fantastic room, executive suite for one very nice. The gym, pool and spa were a great way to relax after work. The restaurant was superb, over indulged in a 3 course meal but it was impossible to resist, service was attentive and professional.

We had a good time the service was great. Breakfast not so good i would like to see the Bacon cooked fresh as it was not crisp and was all dry not nice at all. The night time meals were beatuiful I wll come back but not sure if i would have breaky there again as i love my bacon freshly cooked.

The Staff were professional helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent and gluten free toast made it an even better start for the day of sightseeing. The room was spacious and well appointed and the hotel was very well located for the cbd. We will stay here next time we are in Canberra.

As a Platinum ACCOR and SPG member I am always frustrated by ACCOR due to their inconsistency. I choose Novotel to use some of my LECLUB points. The hotel is well situated in the centre of town within 5 minutes walk of the main shopping centre and plenty of restaurants. Plus next door to the bus station. It was wet when we arrived and the hotel has no entry area where you can stop and unload. You need to drive into the car park for so called valet parking at $18 a night. Right rip off, try and avoid. They do not even bring your car up in the morning. Instead they double park it so you need to wait. The hotel rooms were a good size with a desk and settee. However Novotel's treatment of their Platinum members is pathetic. Nothing offered except an upgrade to a room beside the lifts so ding ding at 5.30 in the morning yet they make so many claims on their web site that some hotels just do not honour.

Room Tip: Keep away from lifts

Location wise, this hotel is well located, in the centre of the city, so is close to shops and places to eat. That said, the city of Canberra is dull after hours, as the shopping hours are short compared to say Melbourne and Sydney. However, the hotel is located in the middle of most attractions of Canberra, so most are only a short drive away.
The room we were given was very good, upgraded to a suite due to the assigned room not being ready at check in. The room was clean and modern. The room not being ready at 5pm was perhaps the only bad experience, and the way it was handled was professional, no lengthy waiting, just upgrade to available room.
The breakfast offering was perhaps a little "light-on" for range, but some other things like omelettes or fried eggs could be requested.
Was not a fan of the indoor heated pool, as it was too noisy and smelled to much of chlorine as would be expected in an indoor pool.
The car park charges of $18 per day I thought were excessive, as there is little option for guests to park elsewhere, and a car is almost essential to see Canberra.

We only stayed for one night. The hotel is a typical 4 star hotel with the usual amenities and is situated in the heart of town, which as its Canberra was not very exciting unfortunately. The room was a fair size, clean and comfortable.

We were not particularly happy to find that the parking charges had been escalated because of a car show event in the local area, which meant we had to suddenly pay more than they had promised when we booked. We’re not talking about a lot of money but it’s the sheer cheek of it that I don’t like.

The indoor swimming pool had far too much chlorine in it which made both our kids feel a little sick. There was a sauna by the pool, which was a waste of time as the temperature was barely higher than in the pool area and almost certainly cooler than the outside! I think they missed the whole point of what a sauna is for.
