The collection is not huge, and you don't come to Australia to see the best of European art. However, there is a good smattering of European and American art.

The Australian collection is wonderful, and the exhibits of Aboriginal and some regional art are outstanding.

The gallery can be a bit daunting as it has some 'interesting' architecture and is on multiple levels (there are lifts and escalators of course). The pictures and sculptures are mostly modern and aboriginal. But there are also plenty of Australian art - new and old. Parking is limited but can be found occasionally underground.

Our National Gallery may be smaller than say, NSW and it does not have the history or the collection of older Australian art but it is a lovely gallery with a rich collection of contemporary Australian art. (as well as world wide gems-Jackson Pollock, Blue Poles for example) Full of light with wonderful nooks and crannies like the Fiona Hall Fern garden. The Aboriginal Galleries are so rich with our history.

Biggest Australian art exhibition, with many impressive works of art from all over the world. The blockbuster exhibitions are absolute musts.

If you have time this is a wonderful spot. May have a special exhibition on - eg Renoir - but always has something good. And, a best kept secret upstairs - the Café. Excellent food and awesome views. Good parking underneath - but go early.
