The AWM is one of the most imposing buildings I have seen and an excellent memorial to those Australians who have given their life for our country.

The displays however are changing, the WW1 section is closed for a few more months and some of the modernisation of other areas is not to MY liking. Different audience I suppose.
A must see on any trip to Canberra, allow 3 hrs at least to soak it in.

Thank Jeff K

This is a must for travelers from abroad so that among other things they can learn to appreciate the role Australians played during WWI & WWII and more recent conflicts. The information and displays are superb.

We visited the AWM for Anzac Day and discovered we could participate in the Last Post ceremony held every day at 5 pm. During the ceremony people can place wreaths at the Pool of Reflection. So when we visited this month we visited the web site to find out how we could take part in this very moving ceremony. My uncle died during WW2 in New Guinea so we wanted to honour his memory. We went to the enquiry desk/reception at the memorial and told them we wanted to lay a wreath that afternoon. They gave us a specially printed card to write on and they provide the wreath. We had to assemble before the ceremony and the protocol officer went through what we had to do. So during the Last Post my grandson, my son and myself laid a wreath in memory to our uncle, great uncle and great great uncle. It was very emotional for us and we felt very privileged that we were able to honour his name in such a way. He was but one of thousands but he is not forgotten.
