We were so seriously impressed with this gorgeous, clean, landscaped, stylish "hotel".

The grounds are beautiful. The rooms are 1950s, yet somehow modern feeling.

I have been recommending this to friends. Such wonderful value too!

I regularly stay at University House at the reception staff are always friendly. However, for some strange reason, in my most recent stay I found that when I checked into my room, the bar fridge had been switched off at the wall point! Imagine the water accumulating in the fridge! I switched it on (of course) but wondered by the fridge was still lukewarm. Some imbecile had previously adjusted the temperature to 0!! What happened to quality control?

Still, University House is a good place to stay. I don't like eating the breakfast at Boffins as the food is a bit too fatty, etc. Also, the staff are a bit rude because they keep on looking at you with suspicion to see if you have checked in for breakfast. So rude, big time.

My mother and I stayed in a twin bed room and it was great. Close enough to walk into town, free parking, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable and clean beds and our room had a balcony. This is a affordable option for a weekend in Canberra when you're not looking for a top of the range hotel but don't want to stay in a dump. The rooms are far engouh away from any traffic that you can easily get a good nights sleep.

Booked this hotel based on location as I was doing some research/work in Canberra - very handy location. Very peaceful and quiet location with a huge lawned area to just sit. Room was spacious with its' own balcony. Facilities were showing their age, but had its own charm - would be an ideal spot to stay if you were researching at ANU.

Room Tip: The larger rooms have a balcony - note there are no elevators so it may mean carrying baggage up thr...

Low tariffs in a surprisingly expensive town for accommodation, this place is a solid 3-star set-up and was clean, has (slow) wifi for low cost, and was close to the centre of town. If you don't mind decor and an ambience that reminds you that you are staying in a university, this is the place for you.

University House is part of the ANU and does have a rarefied, scholarly feel. The deciduous trees, grounds and buildings hint or Europe; there are ducks on an ornamental pond (king-sized koi in it), a well stocked library and no evidence of anything akin to rowdy behaviour. Everything is very subdued.
Rooms are spacious and somewhat old-fashioned, even quaint. Furniture is plain, including a solid pine desk and a distinct lack of decorative elements such as pictures. Interest is provided by an array of odd pieces of office furniture presumably deemed surplus to requirements at he uni at some stage. Some rooms have pleasant balconies with garden outlooks, nice for sitting/reading but a bit too small for socialising.
There is a bar/cafe that serves inexpensive meals though it was closed for one of my days. I did eat in the on-site restaurant Boffins which I thought somewhat overpriced.

I can really recommend this place if you love old world charm and want to be transported to another place. University House is so peaceful and serene. The rooms are really spacious and reflect the mid-century era in which this building was constructed.

If you are looking for the latest trends in interiors then this place isn't for you. You would be better off staying at one of the many chain hotels available in the territory.

If like me, you don't want run of the mill accomodation, then you will love this place.

Room Tip: There are stairs so go for the lower ground if you don't want to climb, however if you don't...
