University House
Ranked #32 of 59 Hotels in Canberra

University house is sitting very convienently located between ANU University campus and the city center. It is very popular with academics visiting the University or in town for a conference.

If you are looking for a modern, stylish hotel this is not your place. But if you like "quaint", old school college charm that you will like it. The rooms are spacious with modern bathroom facilites (heated floors!). The prices are very reasonable, espeically given the usual high prices of hotels in Canberra.

there is a beautiful courtyard inside the complex. The breakfast is served at the "Fellows" cafe that is part of the University house complex. We had a wide selection of both continental and cooked breafast. Boffins, the more formal restaurant offers a good selection of food and wine for dinner

Thank you for your review. Although as you mention, University House is popular amongst academics visiting the university, it has also become a popular stop for corporate clients and families. We are always working towards keeping University House a great place for regular and new guests. Thank you once again.

We have stayed here several times now and have not been disapointed. Yes, t dates from the 50's and doesn't have lifts but it does have a special feel. We always book the Superior Queen with breakfast, a very good deal in my opinion offering a lovely breakfast choice in the Fellows Bar/Cafe. The accomodation is a large lounge with desk, couch, two chairs and a coffee table, small bar fridge and small TV, a separate bedroom with a queen bed which you sort of have to squeese around, and an attached, spacious bathroom. I would love it if they would provide a plunger and some nice coffee, but that is just me!

We are looking at some improvements and upgrades and plunger / coffee in superior rooms is something considered.

I stayed at University House as most accommodation in Canberra was booked out. I was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the accommodation. My room had a separate bedroom and an lounge room and was extremely spacious. Although the accommodation was spotless, the furnishings looked like they dated back from the 1960s, however they were in excellent condition and well-maintained.

The bathroom looked like it had been refurbished and although basic had a large bath and shower. Although the services at University House are limited, there is a bar and restaurant very close by. University House is a little out of the centre of Canberra, but still within a reasonable walking distance. The accommodation is suitable for long stays due to the size of the rooms and it is good value for money

Thank you for your reply and we hope you enjoyed your stay with us.
The furniture in all out rooms ( chairs, desk, coffee table) is all Fred Ward furniture which is retro and can be found not only in the rooms but around University House. Fred award was commissioned in the early days of University House to create the furniture which is enjoyed by all our guests.
It seems to me from your review that you may have missed the Fellows Cafe and Bar in the fellows Garden. We are open every morning for breakfast and Mon to Fri all day till 8.00 pm.
We hope to welcome you back soon.

Was really good for me and my friend to stay in after a long day's drive. I really like how the room was clean and tidy. The room we were in had a table and chair plus a cute little balcony outside. There was also an AC-heat pump so we were kept warm. I also like how we were very close to the city. All in all, it was a good night's stay in this hotel.

campus, with bed to match. Nice view but not necessarily quiet. Suggest getting breakfast elsewhere, unless you like sloppy scrambled eggs. (A few alternate options on campus). We stay again if it were for work, but not if it were for holiday

This hotel was perfect. Having never been to Canberra we were unsure where to stay. Everything was within walking distance and the campus was an oasis escape for the city. The hotel provided an AC heater, 2 electric radiators and electric blankets in case it got cold which i felt was very good. From our balcony we could see the tower. Room was spotless, big and spacious. Bathroom was very nice and modern. Also included off street parking. Was a little difficult to find as it is not sign posted.

The Hotel is located inside the University campus, for that reason is well connected with the academic world. Good things: 1) it has all the services; 2) the views are beautiful; 3) calm and relaxed place to stay. The not too good: 1) the breakfast service is not reserved only for the hotel, so it have some time and quality restrictions; 2) furniture in rooms are old (but clean); 3) kind of cold; 4) a little expensive.
