We booked a room for two persons through a reseller homepage but when we arrived we were told that the room is not suited for two persons and even though it was clearly marked that we booked a room for max. 2 persons, we had to pay the full upgrade for a bigger room. For the money we paid we did not get much: A small and old room. Even though the 50's style is charming, the room was clean and the hotel is located close to the center, the room is clearly overprized.

University House, ANU is situated within the premises of the Australian National University. So if you're visiting Canberra for University-related work, it's the best place to stay in.
A sprawling campus full of birds and flowers, the university campus is nothing less than charming. Coming from India, it was a treat to see different species of birds that reside on this quiet campus. You can take a walk and treat your eyes to the still waters of a lake nearby or if you don't want to venture far, the fish ponds within the campus are a major attraction. Striking statues erected near specific buildings are nothing less than an architectural marvel.
The staff is friendly enough. Food, however, is a little pricey but if you venture out, there are several restaurants to cater to your palette -- Asian, Indian etc. If you want to fix yourself a quick meal in the room, the grocery store is also close by.
If you wish to tour the city, the hop-on-hop-off bus can pick you up from the University itself. I'd rate the campus and accommodation better than the city itself.

It's a bit like a converted convent. It has clean, but old, rooms. Staff is simply great. Location on ANU campus good for the general CBD. The attached restaurant--Boffins--has a good wine list, respectable food, and a pleasant old world ambience.
We used it for putting up overflow of a wedding party. Everyone seemed very pleased. Try it.

Room Tip: Make sure you check your room before you accept it.

University house is sitting very convienently located between ANU University campus and the city center. It is very popular with academics visiting the University or in town for a conference.

If you are looking for a modern, stylish hotel this is not your place. But if you like "quaint", old school college charm that you will like it. The rooms are spacious with modern bathroom facilites (heated floors!). The prices are very reasonable, espeically given the usual high prices of hotels in Canberra.

there is a beautiful courtyard inside the complex. The breakfast is served at the "Fellows" cafe that is part of the University house complex. We had a wide selection of both continental and cooked breafast. Boffins, the more formal restaurant offers a good selection of food and wine for dinner

Thank you for your review. Although as you mention, University House is popular amongst academics visiting the university, it has also become a popular stop for corporate clients and families. We are always working towards keeping University House a great place for regular and new guests. Thank you once again.

We have stayed here several times now and have not been disapointed. Yes, t dates from the 50's and doesn't have lifts but it does have a special feel. We always book the Superior Queen with breakfast, a very good deal in my opinion offering a lovely breakfast choice in the Fellows Bar/Cafe. The accomodation is a large lounge with desk, couch, two chairs and a coffee table, small bar fridge and small TV, a separate bedroom with a queen bed which you sort of have to squeese around, and an attached, spacious bathroom. I would love it if they would provide a plunger and some nice coffee, but that is just me!

Thank you for your kind review.
We are looking at some improvements and upgrades and plunger / coffee in superior rooms is something considered.

Thank you once again.
