“Hard bed, noisy night”
Reviewed 29 June 2014

Stayed here for work during sitting week. The staff are fantastic, very helpful and efficient. The location is also good, with it being a short walk to lots of restaurants in Manuka. The breakfast buffet was good, with a varied selection. My room was upstairs, although it was clean, the bed was like a rock and the door to the room had a huge gap around it so the light glowed in all night, this coupled with the lack of reasonable sound proofing led to a very restless night's sleep. I love my sleep, so feel unable to recommend this hotel.

Well situated hotel - close to Manuka for shopping and dining, the Old Bus Depot markets (A must-do on a Sunday), Fyshwick for its bargain shopping, Parliament House, the National Art Gallery etc. Reception staff were nice and helpful, as was the waitress at breakfast the next morning. Speaking of which, the buffet breakfast was reasonably priced ($46 for 2 adults and a child). We filled up for our day ahead! Our room was cosy and comfortable and the bathroom was clean.

These apartments are well located close to Parliament House. Some of the rooms are old and small but I stayed last time in an executive one-bedroom apartment and paid a little more ($184 per night) for a much better room, with a good shower and kitchen facilities.

The receiption on check-in was a bit ordinary and they assume you can find your way in the dark to your room two buildings away.

the restaurant was good, I had salt and pepper squid salad and I would order that again.
they also have two blow heaters to boost the air cond on minus degree nights, very handy.
The Aldi coffee machine is nice too for that early morning coffee. Appreciated.

Room Tip: ask for the Executive room, a bit more $ but worth it.

Booked a 2-bedroom apartment. Was pleased to find the apartment clean, spacious and equipped with all the facilities that we needed (e.g. washing machine, dryer, heaters, a big flat-screen TV, a good kitchen and even electric blanket for each bed!) after a long drive. Comes with free parking and 500MB wifi. Only downside was that the password given was incorrect and we couldn't log in despite multiple attempts/calls to the reception to verify....oh well, that's not the main point.

It is located near the Parliament House and Manuka (a street full of restaurants, Coles etc). Wished we could have stayed longer. Will definitely stay here again if I am back in Canberra.

Must-Do's if you only have a day/Sunday in Canberra:

1) Mount Ainslie: Only about 15 minutes' drive from the Forrest Hotel & Apartments/Parliament House. The lookout is beautiful and there is no parking fee required for an amazing view of the city. You may even get to see some wild kangaroos if you are lucky too!

2) Old Bus Depot Market (only on Sundays)

We picked this hotel because it is close to Manuka, where we were meeting friends for dinner and it was definitely in wakling distance but we did get a cab which was $8.00...

Great apartments, they look a bit dodgy on the outside but the inside is great and staff were friendly, we had an extra bed in the lounge room, a roll out, which was great and we still had room to move and sit on the lounges and watch tv etc. The bed came at no extra cost through booking.com and it even had an electric blanket which our 9 year old loved!

Bathroom was great, excellent shower, clean and well appointed.

It's close to the Canberra Centre as well, not leisurely walking distance but certainly for people who don't mind a good walk, yes, doable.

In short, yes, would highly recommend this group.

After learning I needed to be in Canberra for a parliamentary sitting week at short notice before, a colleague recommended Forrest Hotel.
About a 10 minute walk from Parliament House, the location can't be faulted. The room was well presented and met all my needs. It's not at the top end of the scale, but considering the amount of time I spent in my room it was more than adequate.
All the staff I dealt with were very professional and went out of their way to help.
As others have said, lugging 2 bags up the stairs to the second floor may present difficulties for some.
Would definitely stay here again when I'm next in Canberra.
