When we arrived it was sprung on us that parking was $12. A charge had never been mentioned and it was eventually waived. The bedroom was small and dimly lit. There was only one face washer the first night and it was dirty! There was nowhere too hang towels.
It was impossible to control the temperature and room was always hot. Our room looked onto an atrium but when we opened the window we got more hot air. There was no outward facing window and no opportunity to get fresh air. The bathroom needed a good scrub. The grouting was filthy and there was back mould in the shower...which was over the bath with no nonslip mat. Breakfast was extensive but the hot food was cold. The first day there were few staff and tables were uncleared and dirty. That did improve. I can find nothing to recommend this hotel. It is isolated from city centre. It is near nothing of merit.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Clearly we started badly and your stay went downhill from there.
Your experience was quite poor and not the standard we expect of ourselves; I hope you will accept my sincere apologies for the poor presentation of the room.
It is disappointing that you did not report the malfunctioning air-conditioning to us; we would certainly have acted and fixed it or moved you to another room – sounds like a faulty thermostat which can happen from time to time.
Please contact me if you are returning, I’m certain we can make the next stay more enjoyable.

Sincerely

While not the most modern hotel, the staff are very well trained and welcoming, the rooms clean and functional and the hotel design provides an overall generosity of space and quality not present in more modern, cramped designs. Excellent location - easy walk to Manuka restaurants, 5 min drive to the National Gallery. Undercover parking was at an additional cost which was surprising. The Rydges beds are nice, but given they are on the softer side not necessarily everyone's choice.

Room Tip: I wouldn't say there is a "bad" room but be aware some face the road, and others face inwards into an atrium. Worth discussing what you prefer to avoid disappointment. We chose the road side, and the soundproofing was excellent, plus good natural light.

Stayed at Rydges Capital Hill this week with my family. We had a lovely time.

* The room was a great size and spotless.
* The bed and pillows were very comfortable, like sleeping on a cloud.
* The indoor pool and spa was a big hit with my kids, they didn't want to get out.
* The room price included parking which was undercover & Questacon Family Pass
(worth $70).
* Location was great, next door to Manuka restaurants and Coles
* The kids loved the buffet breakfast, they didn't know what to eat first.

Would highly recommend Rydges, it exceeded our expectations. The staff were very professional and very welcoming. Will definitely return and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

I was really delighted to read your positive experience of Canberra and our Hotel.

Questacon is nearby and will keep kids entertained for hours a great drawcard for the area. We are mindful of family budgets so great to read that you felt the Package was excellent value.

Thanks again, we were greatly encouraged by your comments.

Hopefully we’ll see you back here one day.

Yes, it's a little bit dated and needs a little bit of maintenance (just a bit of decoration) but it's immaculately clean and tidy with fantastic staff - can't ask for more than that. We were very happy to stay here for 2 nights last week in one of the 'Honeymoon' rooms - amazing spa and huge room! Very large comfortable bed (didn't wake up with a sore back in the morning!). And the individually controlled heating/air conditioning worked exceptionally well. We even had a balcony that we could walk out on to enjoy some fresh air. Breakfast both days was all you could ask for (best yoghurt I've ever tasted). My husband was so comfortable here he wanted to cancel our next hotel and stay here for a couple of more days.

Room Tip: We would have been happy with any of them.

Your review is very kind, thank you so much.

We try hard to keep the Hotel clean, tidy and in good order; Breakfast has been an area of particular focus for us recently so I’m delighted to read that you enjoyed it.

I hope we have the opportunity to be of service on a future visit to Canberra.

Warm regards

Stayed 3 nights in this hotel recently, and I was very happy with the excellent value it offers. We had 2 double beds in the room, and with a young son it made a really comfortable stay. The beds were cozy and I found the shower was probably the best in all the hotels I’ve stayed. There was none of those weak water-saver shower head, it felt just like a straight water fall. The location was excellent, close to all the places that we intended to visit, Parliament House, Art Galleries, Questacon and mingled with the locals in nearby Manuka eateries. If anything for improvement, maybe the lights in the room could be made brighter. Will definitely come back in the next visit to Canberra.

I was really delighted to read your positive experience of Canberra and our Hotel.

There really is a lot to do within walking distance of the Hotel with surprisingly good restaurants and wonderful wineries less than 30 minutes from the city just to name a few.

Thanks so much, we were greatly encouraged by your comments.

Hopefully we’ll see you back here one day.
