The hotel was somewhat shabby, and is under refurbishment,we stayed on fourth floor (non smoking) however the staff were exceptional ,polite and helpful.
The buffet breakfast was factored into our stay and we found it to be of a very high standard.
Would we stay here again probably not.

Under renovation and definitely overdue
Old decor. Old fashioned tube TVs with few channels.
Very basic rooms but clean.
No mini bar
Easy to find the hotel. Ordinary parking area
Staff polite and helpful.
Shabby bathroom.
Feels old and tired.

Thank you for your constructive feedback, and as you noted we are in the midst of refurbishing our nostalgic rooms which are older in style. The renovation has its challenges as it can impact on perceptions. However we have a number of new rooms completed which are more appealing, stylish and which may be requested next time you are visiting Canberra. Your kind comment regarding our personnel is much appreciated as during our rebuilding process our people do make a positive difference. Meanwhile many of your concerns will be addressed as the hotel rejuvenates and we thank you once again and for choosing to stay with us and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of service and the overall appearance of the massive refurbishments and renovations that are underway.
Not wanting to spend too much on a 1 night stay we thought it was really good value for money.
Our room was yet to be renovated, but it was clean, comfortable & quiet. The complimentary buffet breakfast was great.
It was easy walking distance, maybe 20 minutes or so to the Canberra Centre.
We also enjoyed a lovely dinner in the restaurant.

Dear Jane,

Thank you for your kind feedback, much appreciated and we are looking forward to the renovations being completed in the near future. Currently our "nostalgic rooms" are excellent value as our new Executive rooms. Our kitchen and restaurant brigade also thank you for your kind words regarding your enjoyment and experience in our renovated restaurant.

Once again thank you for choosing to stay at the Canberra Rex Hotel and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

We stayed in the new Rex Apartments. The 2 bedroom apartment were as new. The complex has an indoor heated pool which was great for the kids. If you can afford the extra money an apartment would be much better than the adjoining older Rex hotel that is in need of a much needed renovation. Under cover parking a bonus in the cold Canberra mornings.

Room Tip: Take your own pillow as the pillows provided were rather large, which didn't bode well for a com...

Dear Glenn,

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our Serviced Apartments. They are large and ideal for a long stay and have become in favor with our Corporate, & Government clients as well as Families. Meanwhile the Rex Hotel is reinventing itself and soon will be totally refurbished, hence our emphasis on good value "nostalgic rooms" in the coming months.

We appreciate your valued input and choosing to stay with us and hope to welcome you back in the near future.

With kind regards,

There was other cheaper hotels available but considered this one from pictures and average price.
Extremely dissapointed with the room. Cheap bathroom, water temp varied whilst turned on, terrible TV. Renovations taking place from 8am 4 rooms down. Breakfast buffet average.

Let's see: booked a twin room but got a double, to the consternation of my 9yo son. Desk clerk apologetic but unable to do anything about it. Corridors bare and smelly, noise rooms. Saggy bed. Breakfast reasonable.

Staying right now. Wasn't informed that the hotel is currently being renovated. Still paying top dollar though. We ventilated the room to remove the paint smell, and cleaned the clogged filters on the air conditioner to try and get the heat pump to work. After an hour still only 16○C in the room. Bed is comfortable however. These hotels should inform clients that they are undergoing renovation. They seldom do. Staff trained up well. Courteous but distant to complaints. Probably immune took complaints by now. See what's for breakfast!

Hello Ralph,

Thank you for your feedback and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience of not providing you with a twin room arrangement. It appears that the booking process requested was misunderstood and it was missed by our team, which is no excuse. Normally we could have addressed that on check in however the holiday period and market forces dictated sell out conditions and didn't provide us with the flexibility to change rooms. Yes, we are in the middle of renovations which does create a not so desirable situation and our older style rooms are in the process of being refurbished.

Thank you again and our sincere apologies.
