“Last minute hotel after long drive”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

We only stayed for 1 night after long drive from Snowy Mountains and found this hotel offered very cheap rate.

I paid upgraded fee to Spa Suite as thought worth of money to get the spa in the room.

The hotel room was Ok with really old microwave & tube TV in the bedroom. Would stay here again if they offer cheaper rate than other hotels in Canberra.

Originally booked this hotel for one night as I hadn't stayed here before. Got a great deal on a Deluxe Room. The room was clean and comfortable so I extended my stay for another night. The rooms service was fantastic. Great food at reasonable prices and service was speedy.
The only downfall seemed to be early in the morning when other rooms turned on the shower. It sounded like rusty water pipes and quiet noisy. The bathroom was large with a large corner bath. The TV reception was ok but not totally clear.
The hotel was going through some renovations and it would have been good to know that prior to booking. Although the workmen weren't noisy the hotel would have presented itself better.
I would go back to this hotel again depending on the price. I got the room for $80.00 per night. (that was a bargain).

At the time of writing the Pavilion is number 22 out of 52 hotels in Canberra. This probably says as much about hotels in Canberra as it does about the Pavilion. This is just an average hotel on one of the busiest streets in Canberra. I stayed only one night. As previous reviewers have noted it is currently undergoing serious renovations, so don’t expect much of an ambience. For one night these things wouldn’t have really bothered me. However on that one night I was very tired and decided to eat Thai food in my room and have a couple of beers. Having purchased both nearby in Dickson I checked the room to find no cutlery (except a teaspoon) and no bottle opener. Reaching for the phone I found that it was not connected. After rummaging around behind the bed for a while I found the line (plug broken) and put it in the phone. Instead of a dial tone I was greeted with something like “your phone has been blocked; please insert your personal code”. After a bit of experimentation I found that if I pushed the reception button it dialled, despite being “blocked”. Reception put me through to the restaurant that can barely hide their contempt for the fact that I am eating someone else’s food in my room. They promise 15 minutes for a knife, fork and bottle opener to travel the 50 meters from the kitchen to my room. Needless to say the Thai is getting cold so I get started using the teaspoon. One hour later the Thai and the beers are finished, but no knife, fork or bottle opener. This is a very average hotel that needs the renovation however the renovation won’t change the service. Stay here if you don’t have any other alternative (which can happen in Canberra) but it isn’t cheap and cheerful, it’s more like expensive and indifferent.

Room Tip: You don't want a room in the front overlooking Northbourne Avenue

Stayed here for 2 nights for a work trip in a spa suite. Hotel is dated and is currently under renovation. Stayed in the apartment block. Rooms were spacious, however woke up with ants crawling all over the bed and on the headboard and on the floor near the bed. Was swapped to another room for the second night, which had no ants, however the water temperature of the shower kept fluctuating without me changing it. It would get scorching hot, then become luke warm then cold then scorching hot again. Was a battle every time I showered. Food was below average and only a continental breakfast was offered. There are better hotels in Canberra for a similar price.

Stayed here recently whilst visiting family in Canberra. I shared a room with my son. Bed comfy and room warm but bathroom very dated. No where to hang clothing or toilet bag. Ended up with clothes on the toilet and bag on the floor. Decided that the price for breakfast was too dear so are elsewhere. Gated parking handy but the swipe card never worked. Wouldn't recommend it x

Our second enjoyable stay in a well priced Deluxe Room at the Pavilion on Northbourne. Whilst not the newest or most modern hotel in town, it is a clean, comfortable and quiet place to stay for a few days. The restaurant is undergoing a complete renovation, so hopefully the rooms get an upgrade in the future too. The shower flow and temp was great but over an small, older bath with a shower curtain. The beds and pillows were very comfy and we had great sleep. Staff seemed happy and were efficient and helpful. Room service was prompt and the beef burgers and cheese platter/dessert arrived quickly and were tasty. Gated parking included is a plus. The only negative paying $10 a night hire for a DVD player with no remote that needed its and the TV's cords to be to swapped over each time to change between TV/DVD. This meant the hassle of getting on a chair and fiddling with the cords in the tight space behind the TV each time. IMO the charge should be refunded upon remote being returned and a work around found.
Definitely would stay here again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the rear of the hotel which was quiet, could possibly be traffic noise at the front of...

Have stayed here many times in the past so when my daughter booked it for business I was happy to stay here to babysit for her. We were four generations travelling. I was thoroughly disappointed to see the extent of the renovations. The whole middle section of the hotel was guttered and barricade off but we could see from the upper levels looking down. The beautiful rainforest area where we would normally dine and bar area to sit was all barricade off. I did think it was perfect to wheel the pram through here to get the baby off to sleep but no....I had to wheel here around the concourse edge of the rooms instead. No lovely restaurant area.. we ate in a meeting/board/function room. The meals were very good but the ambiance was just not there. Very disappointed that the extent of the renovations are not known and the price of the food and rooms should really be heavily discounted to compensate. It will take a lot to get me back there again!
