“Nice enough”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

We had dinner at Ginseng on Saturday night with some friends. It was perfectly nice but not sure why we went out of our way to go to this restaurant in particular. It is very much run of the mill Chinese food with much better restaurants (for range and authenticity) available in Dickson etc. It was not expensive, however, so the meal seemed to fit the price well.

“Boring, tasteless food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2013

We went to dinner at this restaurant last week. It was close to our hotel and had good reviews on Tripadvisor. After being seated I inquired as to whether the food was prepared with MSG as it does not agree with me. The owner came over and said that they did not add any MSG but they could not guarantee that the commercial sauces they used did not have MSG. I asked her which dishes were not used with too many added sauces. She became quite short with me and just repeated the initial comment she made. I was not rude to her. It was a wet night and we were hungry so we decided to stay and order. The meal was absolutely tasteless and totally boring. I can cook tastier Chinese food myself at home and I am not Chinese. Our waiter was helpful and charming but hardly made up for the dinner we received.

“Duck pancakes!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 May 2013 via mobile

We went here for mothers day lunch and we were very impressed! The food was absolutely delicious! We walked out of here feeling VERY full and satisfied! Service was lovely. Top dishes are the duck pancakes and the satay chicken on broccoli is the best I have ever tasted! We sat upstairs. The interior does need a little work though. Highly reccomend!!!

“Hardy Perennial”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013 via mobile

My wife and I first ate at Ginseng a week after it opened back in late January 2000. Suffice to say, not everything went 100% smoothly on that evening, but from inauspicious beginnings, Ginseng has become an extremely reliable pick for a great meal out.

Our most recent visit was a Saturday night dinner for two in mid-April 2013. We ordered the steamed pork and garlic dumplings and roast duck pancakes for starters. Then, Honey King Prawns with chilli and lime, sizzling Mongolian beef fillet, and deep fried tofu and veggies, with steamed rice. The food was all exactly was you would expect - fresh, hot and flavoursome. We also had a couple of glasses of wine.

The bill came to a smidge over $115. Reasonable value. The service was friendly and unobtrusive, and the food came quickly.

The only observation I'd make about Ginseng, as others have done, is that the decor is starting to look a little tired.

Other than that, as always, it was a good night out. Recommended.

“Great shantung chicken”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 April 2013 via mobile

We went here for a last minute lunch at Easter. Restaurant was only about a third full. Service was quick and our meals were out in about 15 minutes. The five spice deep fried squid was cooked well, though could have done with a little more five spice and chilli. The shantung chicken was great. Perfectly cooked crispy skinned boneless chicken with a superb flavoursome sauce.
