After returning from a great holiday in Japan we were looking for a Japanese restaurant that prepared the dish 'Okonomiyaki'. Chaki Chaki hasvthe dish on its menu so we decided to give it a try. This dish was not quite that in Japan but well worth a visit. The gyoza, tempura and grilled eel were just great. We will be returning to experience the dinner degustation.

I have been here a few times and this deserves to be supported and enjoyed. The meal was shared three starters and three mains, I ordered the ell, an excellent choice. We shared the dishes had a beer each and were satiated. Each of us have traveled and this is a GEM.
Value excellent..42 per head.
I will be back. My friend from Sweden was amazed.

This restaurant is not on the street level but that means the noise of Canberra is shut out. We found the menu expansive and able to satisfy all six of us. When the meals arrived that were excellent being fresh in taste and with good mouth feel. The portions were satisfying. An adequate wine list and the beer from the tap was cold and fresh. Service was good and attentive. A true Japanese food experience.

We were off to a poor start when the waiter sat my husband - whose birthday it was - down at the one seat at the table that wasn’t set. That seemed odd, but it was reflective of the confusion and chaos which marked the service all night.

One dish was forgotten until we asked for it when everything else was served. A half serve - as listed on the menu - was delivered full size, but to Chaki Chaki’s credit they only charged the half price, noting it was their mistake (we hadn’t realised). Getting a glass of water was a triumph. No glass was ever topped up, and when we called the waiter over and asked for a top up, they’d fill one glass and head off back to stand behind the counter. When we ordered 3 house white wines, each one was delivered individually with a few minutes between. Empty beer and soft drink glasses were left on the table until we piled them onto the waiter’s tray. The waiter was unable to answer very simple questions about the food e.g ‘what’s in the gyoza?’. Although the restaurant was busy, the waiters were hard to hail from their position behind the counter. The food was tasty but the whole atmosphere was so unprofessional and careless and made what was meant to be a happy family occasion. In their defence, the staff were very young, but there seemed to be no-one to give them some guidance/training.

Delicious dishes, good quality food, reasonable price & good service, especially the lady chef is very helpful & friendly. Tasmanian tiger prawn - very big, taste nearly like lobster, snapper tempura & dumplings are very delicious. The wine, entree & dessert are great, too. Absolutely satisfied. Highly recommended.
