The beds are riddled with bed bugs, there were old cigarette butts and dirty tissues on the floor in our room.
the lady who runs the place was unhelpful, dismissive and rude at the best of times.
The television did not work.
there are termites that have eaten away the majority of the skirting board around the room
the sheets had not been changed on one of the beds from the last people that stayed, probably the reason for the bed bugs.

We stayed there during our world trip back in January. The owners were very accomodating when we missed our flight and we had to delay our arrival for one day.
The hotel itself is ok. It is very hot, they don't have any AC. If you can try to get a room on the street side, yes it is a little noisy, but you will take the noise over the heat in the summer time. The room never got cleaned in the one week that we were there. We had to ask for fresh towels after 4 days, which were handed to use without any issues. They could at least pick up the trash on a daily basis. The in room microwave had some issues. Overall the rooms are worn.
The Wifi, which is not free is spotty and had several issues.
The location of the hotel was good. It is about 5 minutes from the metro station and close to restaurants and shopping.
We would recommend the hotel to young travelers who are budget conscious. Overall for the price we paid and compared to other hotels in Australia I think it is ok.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the street side. Those are not so sunny

Hostel prices in Sydney are pretty steep, with many of them focused around Kings Cross. If you are travelling with one other person And prefer private/twin rooms, then this might be the accommodation for you. It will cost you roughly the same price as a 2 person room in a hostel, but it is quieter and you will have your own ensuite and tv in the room. However while it is clean, it is one of those places where the furniture hasn't been updated for 20years and the staff are generally never around did you have an issue (but they do give you a mobile num to call them). Wifi Internet is extra costing $5 a day or $20 a week. It's a 5 minute walk to kings cross but thankfully not in the middle of it like some hostels. Trust me when I said the place is a nightmare at the weekends! Unless of course that's what you're looking for!

Lady on reception took a long time to answer the door, and there had been a mix up with our room.
Room was terrible, marks on the blanket, the decor hadnt been updated for many years so looked very tired. The mirror had been leant up against the wall, and the tv was the old school type with push buttons.
Ensuite shower room smelt funny, was very cramped and in need of a complete renovation.
Good location, and underground train station was at end of the road. Also, some nice eateries and takeaways along the street.
We appreciate it was cheap but a certain standard should be met. All in all, worst hotel ever stayed in.

Usually i'm not one to complain however, HOLIDAY LODGE was a waste of my money. the owner was one of the rudest hotel owners i have ever met and i do a lot of travelling. Being a group of 4 we were very considerate for others around us by leaving at 8pm (which is a reasonable time for any noise that may have been made). The owner didn't give us a warning and gave us 30 mins to leave without telling us she we had actually been evicted. We arrived back at our motel at 11.00pm to find a note on our door with the door locked with all out gear inside saying we couldn't pick it up till 10.00am the next day. There was a phone number to call after hours so we did and she told us to leave and come back in the morning and wouldnt even come in so we could collect our bags and try to check into another motel. Being tourists and in the middle of Kings Cross Sydney we had no where to go or stay. when you finally got back into out motel we opened the door to see all our clothes and expensive belongings thrown into garbage bags.

In my opinion for what we payed for and we got was ridiculous and i dont recommend it to anyone. I will not be staying there ever again.

My partner and I booked this via the internet - the photo looked fine. We were not looking for 5 star accomodation just a clean, comfortable room with bathroom facilities ( which we requested)

On arrival I couldn't believe my eyes!! The hotel was extremely tired and wasn't even clean!! The carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks!! The first room they showed us too was nothing short of disgusting. When I said this was not what we had asked for the lady apologised and went to find the manager who then proceeded to tell us we had been shown to the wrong room. The next room we were shown was slightly better but honestly, the thought of sleeping in the bed appalled me!!

We said this was not what we had expected nor what was represented, and we would like to cancel. They retained a nights accomodation.
Good score for the Hotel and I imagine we wouldn't have been the first.

I would not recommend the Holiday Lodge at all.
The customer service was average at a pinch and the accomodation "simply awful"

I really hope the owners take note of the comments as the location truly is a good one.
As I said previously, not looking for 5 star but clean, tidy and comfortable would be good!!

We stayed at the Holiday Lodge from March 3rd-6th. We were advised when we first got there that there had been a plumbing leak on one of the floors and we may have to be sent to another place. It was being resolved and we could elect to leave our bags there and come back later or we could wait. We waited as we had just got off a 20 hour flight and were wiped out. Our guaranteed room was to be at the front of the building, with a balcony. We were warned it may be noisy as it faced the road and it was Mardi Gras weekend. Shortly thereafter our room was ready. No indication of wet, or mould, the bed was solid and had triple sheets, which is usually reserved for higher ended places. The area with the fridge, micro, and tv, was tight and, yeah, the tv was small, older, but it worked fine and we had a remote. There was a large queen bed, a bureau and a clothing rack. The furniture was, well, old, cheap and needy. We had a beautiful curved window with a door that opened to a small non-walkable scrolled iron area. There was a desk and a chair pushed against the wall that we moved and added one of the solid nightstands to make a second seat by the balcony area and it worked fine. We dined sorta alfresco. The bathroom was clean, updated, and actually rather nice. There was a amber glass window that was old and in the shape of a quarter circle that opened as a vent. The water in the shower was nice and hot. Complementary toiletries were adequate. Our room was cleaned daily and linens changed.
I am 62 and my friend 60. Considering we were there Mardi Gras weekend and we were facing Macleay just one story up, we did not have a problem with noise. Nothing woke us up and the hotel seemed unusually quiet. The receptionist had warned us and originally even tried to recommend we take another room because of the potential noise, but we were glad we didn't, especially after reading the words of another person staying there during our time.
We were also told by the receptionist who was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay that the hotel had recently been purchased and was in the process of being updated. They were under certain restrictions and it is in a historical area in a historically protected building and it was taking some time and red tape. This was later confimed when I found sticking out of a stall in the hallway inthe reception area a public notice to that effect that looks to have been attached to the building at one point. She had also mentioned that the hotel was understaffed and looking for help. We did take a few pictures of the inside and will try to add them later.
We were in Australia in both Melbourne and Sydney and stayed in different hotels during our 2+ week stay. This was not the best and not the worst either.
Guess we got lucky.
